So you thought this evening’s headliner for UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson was set for five rounds? Think again. UFC President Dana White says this weekend’s battle will not potentially be twenty-five minutes of action for Saturday’s (June 14, 2013) main event match-up.
“If we make a fight and it’s not a title fight but it’s the main event, it’s a five rounder. But if somebody falls off, we make it a three rounder,” White said during the pre-fight media scrum. “Going into a camp, they have to know ahead of time they’re fighting five rounds.”
Sorry fight fans. If you want to see a five-round fight, come back next month for UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman on July 6, 2013.
You would think those in charge learned their lesson with Diego “The Dream” Sanchez and Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger, which took place on the first installment of UFC on FUEL TV. Sanchez rallied back in round three, after losing the first two rounds, controlling the third with heavy ground-and-pound until the bout’s end and leaving fans clamoring for more action.
Can we expect more of the same on Saturday?
