UFC Fight Night 126 play-by-play and live results

AUSTIN – MMAjunkie is on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC Fight Night 126 event, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT).

The event takes place at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, and the card airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, former lightweight title challenger Donald Cerrone (32-10 MMA, 19-7 UFC) takes on Yancy Medeiros (15-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) in a welterweight bout. In the co-feature, Texas’ own Derrick Lewis (18-5-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) meets fellow heavyweight Marcin Tybura (16-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC).

Donald Cerrone vs. Yancy Medeiros

Round 1 – Medeiros and Cerrone trade one-twos off the bat. Cerrone circles and fires off a body kick. Medeiros in quick and Cerrone misses on a takedown conversion. Spinning back kick pushes Cerrone back. Cerrone trying to land on the counter and misses, but a body kick is good. Cerrone mixing leg kicks with takedown feints and combinations. Medeiros pauses and resets. He’s trying to circle around and getting caught with body kicks. They trade right hands. Cerrone takes a right hand and backpedals. Cerrone feints the takedown and then reconsiders. Medeiros peppers him with more shots. Right hand slams Medeiros, but he goes to the mat on the counter. They hug in friendship. Left straight for Medeiros and then Cerrone drops him with a left. Cerrone now landing regularly to the jaw, looking for combinations to catch Medeiros off guard. Lunging knee lands. Medeiros spins and they clinch briefly. Trading in the pocket, and Medeiros nearly gives up a takedown. They clinch, and Cerrone walks them to the cage. Cerrone bleeding from his head. Medeiros turns him and works knees. Medeiros tries to wrap the head, and Cerrone lands a right hand. Medeiros getting tagged on the counter. Medeiros sets up for a clinch. It’s the wrong decision, as Cerrone tags him with a huge right hand that drops Medeiros clean. Cerrone pounds away for the finish, and Dean steps in to save Medeiros.

Derrick Lewis vs. Marcin Tybura

Round 1 – Lewis leads with a low leg kick. And he counters the next leg kick with a punch and takedown. Landing on otp in side control, he’s trying to work his elbow while Tybura tries to tie up. Lewis up, and Tybura attacks the leg. Lewis spins out and sits on his opponent. Lewis punches the ribs and finally adjusts to hold top position. Tybura scrambles to his hands and knees, and Lewis gets to his back. Lewis stumbles as Tybura gets up and tumbles to the mat and Tybura quickly takes mount. Tybura takes the back, but Lewis gets out the back door. And in the next exchange, Lewis drops Tybura with a right hand and tries to pound away. He misses and loses position when a whizzer isn’t good enough. Tybura now in half-guard with 90 seconds to work. Tybura works the body. Lewis tries to get up as Tybura works the body with his elbow. Tybura postures up and continues to work the body. He then attacks the head. Lewis not going well trying to muscle his way up. Tybura climbs into mount, and Lewis gives up the back. Tybura tries a keylock as Lewis puts his back on the mat and runs out of time. MMAjunkie scores the opening frame 10-9 for Lewis.

Round 2 – Tybura attacks the knee and Lewis immediately backs up. Tybura looks a lot fresher. He’s bouncing around and looking for an opportunity. Attacks the knee. Head kick blocked. Big right hand from Lewis sends Tybura backward. Then another, and they hit the cage in the clinch. Tybura immediately goes for the takedown and winds up on top in side control. Tybura works the body. Not devastating work, but one way traffic. Lewis rolls and gets to his hands and knees as Tybura takes the back. Lewis trying to shake off Tybura. Can’t do it. Lewis goes to his back and is in moutn. Back control again. Lewis stands, and action stalls as neither fighter wants to make a move. Lewis explodes out and nearly gets free, but Tybura again holds the back and then mount. Elbows from up top. Lewis takes a few big ones before time runs out. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Tybura, and it’s even at 19-19.

Round 3 – Tybura tries to sneak in a right hand and barely misses. Lewis tries a jab and takes a side kick to the knee. He looks gassed. High kick not even close to height. Tybura barely misses with the same. Tybura going back to that lead leg. Lewis again with his one-two, but both are blocked. Tybura rushes in and initiates clinch against the fence. He knees the legs. Three minutes left, and Tybura goes for a single leg. Lewis wraps the head, but then pushes off before a quick takedown. Tybura pops up, and Lewis nails him with a right hand. Tybura goes to the mat, and Lewis follows up with a few shots. Tybura isn’t improving, and referee Mirgliotta steps in to stop it. Replay shows a right hook cracked Tybura right to the jaw. Yet another incredible turnaround for Lewis, who again snatches victory from the jaws of defeat.

James Vick vs. Francisco Trinaldo

Round 1 – Trinaldo closes early and Vick side kicks him. Circling out as the Brazilian closes. They trade body kicks. Vick with hook kick that bounces off Trinaldo’s head. Active with kicks is Trinaldo. Right hand good in Vick charge. Trinaldo misses on a hook, but the clinch puts him in control against the fence. Vick back to his kicks after escaping. Trinaldo answers with a left as Vick charges again. Vick switches stances just in time to eat a left, but he drops Trinaldo with a right in the subsequent exchange. Vick tries a guillotine, and Trinaldo uses it to initiate a scramble that puts him on top. Vick scoots to the cage and stands up, and Trinaldo slaps on a guillotine as he peaks. Vick guts it out and gets back to his feet, hammering Trinaldo with a right hand before they reset. They trade body shots. Vick jumps from open with knee, and then follows with a combo that nets one good shot. Trinaldo takes a side kick to the body and circles off. He fires wilely in counter, and still Vick chases. Vick can’t put his opponent away with jumping attacks and punch combinations, but he takes the frame 10-9 on MMAjunkie’s scorecards.

Round 2 – Trinaldo closes again. Vick with a jumping switch kick. Overhand left counter nearly misses him. Vick gets clipped with a right and then Trinaldo slips. Head kick good for Vick, but Trinaldo eats it and gets a takedown. Vick scrambles and gets back to his feet. He goes for his own takedown and misses as Trinaldo sprawls. Clinch in close, and he’s able to power Trinaldo to the ground. It’s not a long grappling exchange as the Brazilian rights himself. Head kick slaps Trinaldo, who just eats it and keeps coming. Vick circling out. Trinaldo flurries with hooks and lands one glancing shot. Vick susceptible to getting caught on the back end of exchanges with those hooks. Trinaldo not on the offensive, looking for big hooks as Vick tries to kick him away. Vick now works the jab and then switches stances. A pair of side kicks good. Trinaldo trying to corner his man. Kicks push him back. Kick and retreat. Right hand from Trinaldo good. They trade kicks in close, and Trinaldo digs the body. Side kicks to body and head for Vick. Jumping knee a nothingburger for Vick. Trinaldo closes with a body hook. Hook kick glancing for Vick to close. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Trinaldo, and they’re even at 19-19.

Round 3 – Trinaldo in again. Vick jumps and slips on a kick and circles away. Body kick and escape for the American. Vick content to play hit and run. Another flying knee, and Trinaldo misses on his left counter. Side kicks keep Trinaldo at bay. Left hook hits baack of Vick’s head. Now they’re center cage. Kicks give Trinaldo pause. Vick catches Trinaldo’s leg and thinks about a sweep, then goes back to the plan. Vick stops long enough to fire off a lunging knee. Trinaldo explodes and lands a one-two. Body kick for Trinaldo. Vick standing. Side kicks. Right hook good for Trinaldo as Vick escapes. Less than half the round to go. Vick still working those legs, then he sneaks in a straight left. Big body kick from Trinaldo as Vick circles off. Trinaldo charges in and still can’t make anything happen. Vick is just not there. Even when he stands, Trinaldo gets caught up in side kicks before he can do anything. Crowd finally losing its patience. Vick leaping and spinning, but he’s way too out of range to do anything. Trinaldo briefly gets his paws on Vick. They clinch up after a Vick kick. Capoiera kick from Trinaldo ends the time of a frustrating round. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Vick, giving him the 29-28 decision.

Thiago Alves vs. Curtis Millender

Round 1 – Alves circles off as Millender closes. Millender feinting with legs, and then lets a kick go. Feints from Millender, who backs off and lets Alves meet him in the center. Alves works a jab and resets. Millender presses again. High kick attempt pulled back by Millender, who gets out of the way of Alves’ low kick. Patience from Millender, who’s got a big height and reach advantage. Jump knee good for Millender after he takes a hard leg kick. Inches in and attacks both sides of Alves’ leg. Spinning kick misses for Millender. Alves having a hard time putting anything together. Left hook cracks Alves, who’s suddenly on his heels. Millender looks to capitalize and walks him down. Leg kick misses for Alves. Millender is intercepting or dodging before he can get inside. Straight right drops Avles, and as soon as he’s up, an uppercut drops him again. Millender celebrates the knockout, but it’s premature as Montalvo isn’t stopping anything. Millender gets back to work and pounds away, but Alves manages to get back to his feet. Millender just looking for the finish. Alves decides to go for broke and walks down Millender, trying to slug it out. Hard straight right prompts Alves to shoot, and Millender wraps the neck in defense. Alves gets free only to run out of time. MMAjunkie scores the first frame 10-8 for Millender.

Round 2 – They trade leg kicks early, and Alves is already more aggressive. Millender now working on the counter. Alves pauses, and Millender is again patiently waiting. They trade rights. Alves is trying to work the legs. Body kick good. Check left good for Millender, who gets away from the straight attacks in counter. Alves is going to have to get closer and throw straighter shots. Millender is getting out of the way or jabbing to take the steam out of attacks. Lead jab to the body countered by kicks from Alves. Millender digs the body again, hard. Alves still looking for that overhand. He goes straight with a charge, and Millender resets. Head hunting from Millender on kicks. Alves whiffs on a charge. Left hook glances, but he walks right into a straight right. That’s the deal: walk into shots or whiff on overhands. Alves is working the legs well. Then, out of nowhere, Millender fires off a junging knee as Alves throws a left hook. Another pause as Millender stands overhead, and Montalvo again hesitates. But after a beat, it’s clear that Alves is done. Fight waved off, and Millender gets the win.

Steven Peterson vs. Brandon Davis

Round 1 – Peterson in quickly, and Davis fires back with straight punches. Low kick stumbles Peterson, but Peterson lands with a right hand. Davis lands his own shots in that meaningful exchange. Davis attacks the legs. Peterson presses in again, and Davis circles off. They trade jabs. Davis more unpredictable and slowly picking apart Peterson with a more varied attack. Not there when Peterson presses. Takedown attempt draws shift, and Davis resets. Peterson still in it, presses forward with a jab. Davis pushes him off and attacks the calf. Axe kick gets Peterson’s attention. Peterson back with a nice body kick that’s partially caught. Davis attacking the legs and slipping out of harm’s way when Peterson gets close. Davis turns up the tempo and smacks Peterson with a nice combo. Peterson chases and tries to wrap the head, but Davis is having none of it. Speed and technique are so far on Davis’ side, though Peterson’s power punches make him dangerous. Pair of straight rights for Davis, and he resets. Peterson tries to chases him down and meets glove on a final combination. MMAjunkie scores the first frame 10-9 for Davis.

Round 2 – Peterson again in aggressively, and Davis using his jab and movement to get free. Peterson shoots for a takedown and just can’t get it as Davis changes direction and then thumps him with a knee. Peterson with an overhand right, and draws a combination ended by a kick. Peterson just won’t be deterred. They trade heavy right hands. Peterson walks into an overhand right. He chases Davis who tries to duck away. Pressure beginning to get to Davis. Peterson is beginning to get through. Davis breaks up the action with a takedown attempt and winds up taking a heavy knee to the body. Peterson drives to the fence and works for a takedown. He transitions to the back as Davis turns, and Davis shucks him off. Armbar attempt from Peterson fails, and Davis pours it on as his opponent gets up. Peterson reverses position and drops for another takedown. Davis might be fading here. Davis fakes giving the back and reverses position. But Peterson soon changes it up and reverses. He gets to the back and gets the takedown. Working ground and pound from half-guard, Peterson is punching, and Davis is just holding on. MMAjunkie scores the second frame 10-9 for Peterson, and now it’s 19-19.

Round 3 – Peterson is coming forward and wants a firefight. Davis slugs back and manages to gets Peterson to back off after he lands a few heavy shots. Peterson in again. He’s in Davis’ face and taking shots to give his own. Davis gets a warning for outstretching his fingers as he tries to escape. Peterson lands a nice combo. Davis misses on a spinning attack. Peterson still in his face. Nice counters from Peterson. He’s still got the superior technique, and he’s more unpredictable, but Peterson is just relentless. Overhand rights from Davis nail Peterson, and they make him bleed. But he continues to press forward. Takedown attempt thwarted. Peterson settles for the clinch in the next exchange. Davis trying with everything to keep his foe at bay. Davis with another big right hand. Peterson just eats it. Then out of nowhere, Peterson ducks right into a knee that puts him on rubber legs. Peterson outstretches his arms, and he continues to come forward. Jumping front kick. Davis smacks him again with kicks and punches. Peterson just won’t give up. He takes the back as the fight comes to an end, and finally, Davis can take a breath. Definitely a “Fight of the Night” contender, but Davis pulls it out 10-9 in the final round for superior accuracy and damage, giving him the 29-28 decision.

Sage Northcutt vs. Thibault Gouti

Round 1 – Gouti inches forward and draws counters from Northcutt. Gouti resets and advances again, landing a hard right that prompts an immediate shot from Northcutt. Landing in side control, Northcutt works for position as Gouti tries to prevent the mount. Northcutt working short right hands as Gouti wraps the head. Gouti tries to triangle the neck from bottom and can’t scramble free. Northcutt looks content to wait for his opportunity. He stands up and pops Gouti with a hammerfist and punch, and Gouti pitches to his hands and knees before escaping to his feet. They trade leg kicks, and Northcutt goes high. Gouti presses in again and lands that straight right. Front choke attempt lifts Northcutt to the fence, and Gouti works for a takedown. Not happening. Elbows from Northcutt to the side of the head. Knee on the break. They reset in center cage. Northcutt gets his kicks working and narrowly avoids a combo. Right hand good, but wheel kick way wide. Gouti closing again. Northcutt lands a right as Gouti spins. Northcutt wisely moving to avoid being cornered and taking that right. Gouti shoots from open and he’s picked off. Northcutt jabs and then tries to shoot to no avail. Spinning backfist lands for Gouti, who runs out of time. MMAjunkie scores the opening frame 10-9 for Gouti.

Round 2 – Gouti again presses in. Northcutt tries to keep him honest with kicks and jabs. Another left hook and right straight lands for Gouti. He’s back in, and a left hook is good for Gouti. Northcutt not having success with a takedown. Gouti again lands with a power punch, and Northcutt gets bowled onto the canvas against the canvas. Gouti working from half-guard. Northcutt recovers to sit, and Gouti tries to suck the legs out. Northcutt gets to his feet, and Gouti is still working for the takedown with half of the frame left to work. Again, he puts Northcutt on his butt. Stalemate. Northcutt again rights himself. Gouti won’t give up on the takedown. Elbows to the side of the head, and Hatley separates them. Northcutt tries to land big punches, but Gouti manages to avoid them. So Northcutt goes back to the jab and circles off when the pressure gets too much. Gouti hears the clapper and starts backing up, taking the round off. Northcutt purses with a wheel kick and misses way wide. MMAjunkie scores the second frame 10-9 for Gouti, and he’s up 20-18.

Round 3 – Northcutt leads with side kicks. Northcutt lands a wheel kick, and Hatley stops the action for some reason. Gouti back in after the action is restarted, and the kicks start for Northcutt. Gouti pressing in, and explodes. Miss, and Northcutt makes him pay with kicks and his jab. Gouti still bullying Northcutt physically. Northcutt misses on the takedown attempt. Gouti resumes his chase and fires off a few left hooks before getting a takedown against the fence. Same situation, with Northcutt seated. Northcutt up quicker this time, and he’s got three minutes to work. Gouti scoops the legs and puts him back down. Northcutt up again. And back down. Elbows and punches from Northcutt. Gouti just stalling as Northcutt elbows his head. Now Northcutt wraps the head and thinks about a choke. He’s up, finally, and elbows and knees as Gouti drives. Hatley separates them and Northcutt works kicks. Takedown attempt again fails for Northcutt, who drives the single to the fence. Big right hand and elbow on the way out from Northcutt, who follows with a flying knee. Northcutt again uses Gouti’s forward movement for takedown attempt, but he just doesn’t have the strength to complete. He goes for broke with a flashy kick to end the frame, and Gouti nearly makes him pay with his fist. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Northcutt, but Gouti should take this 29-28.

Jared Gordon vs. Diego Ferreira

Round 1 – Ferreira jabs in and works his right hand to follow. Gordon fires back in close before taking a blatant kick to the groin, and we pause. Ferreira again closes on the restart, and they’re trading in close. Both fighters scoring with punches, but again, Ferreira’s inside kick goes low and we’re forced to stop. Miragliotta gives a hard warning and threatens a point deduction. Ferreira lands a nice knee to the body and attempts to convert a clinch to a takedown. Gordon hangs in and then gets tagged with a right hand that briefly wobbles him. he soon initiates a takedown and can’t complete it. Ferreira is taking the leg. In the next exchange, Ferreira lands a left straight that drops Gordon to the mat. Gordon is trying to grab a leg as Ferreira pounds, but Ferreira gets to his back and simultaneously traps an arm. More unanswered shots aren’t making the situation any better, so Miragliotta makes the call and waves off the bout.

Geoff Neal vs. Brian Camozzi

Round 1 – Camozzi tries to tag Neal early with a high kick, and the two punche off low kicks. Neal flurries in close with his hands and pushes Camozzi to the fence. Fighting for position, Neal suddenly spins off, and the two trade kicks. Both trading with punches, and Neal is getting the better of exchanges. He again pushes Camozzi into the fence, and the action stalls. Camozzi tries to wrap the head, but he doesn’t have the angle. Neal again out, and they square off. Neal with a body kick, and they trade hoks. Both looking for big shots, and Neal nails a nice left straight. In the clinch, they jockey for position. Camozzi gets free and tries to put together combinations. Neal is there for all of them and drives to the fence. Camozzi forced to take a knee. Neal sees and opening and tries a choke. No hooks in, but the old school bulldog is there, and Camozzi taps. Impressive debut.

Roberto Sanchez vs. Joby Sanchez

Round 1 – Roberto Roberto Sanchez in quickly with a hard straight right, and then transitions to a takedown. Joby Sanchez hits a switch, and the two scramble for position. Still at Joby’s back, Roberto Sanchez drives for a takedown against the fence. Joby again with the switch, and Roberto Sanchez transitions to the back, climbing up on Joby and securing a body triangle. Joby Sanchez trying to make his neck scarce and control the hand, and Roberto Sanchez slips his arm under the neck as Joby Sanchez throws his body to the canvas. Roberto Sanchez has the neck, and there’s nowhere to go. The slam actually helped him secure the finish as he got his arm underneath the neck. Impressive performance for Roberto Sanchez.

Sarah Moras vs. Lucie Pudilova

Round 1 – Pudilova jabs in and circles with a low stance. Moras takes a jab and misses on punches. But a head kick slaps Pudilova, and she quickly converts her move to a takedown, landing in guard. Elbows to the midsection, and then she postures up and works ground and pound. Closed guard for Pudilova, and Moras whacks her with a right hand. Elbows in close. Moras beating up Pudilova, who shows no signs of initiating a scramble. Moras misses a pass, but she’s scooting Pudilova to the cage so she can maximize damage with her ground and pound. Half of the round to work. More elbows and punches, and Pudilova is stuffed against the cage as Moras stands overhead and holds the legs. Even when she loses her balance, Pudilova can’t capitalize and explode up. For no reason whatsoever, Montalvo stands them up, and Pudilova gets after Moras, whacking her with several punches. A right hand cracks Moras, and she drops to the mat. Armbar attempt right of the bat, and then a triangle. Moras switches to the armbar, and Pudilova’s arm looks pretty bad. She stands up and escapes. In the final seconds, she peppers Moras with hammerfists. The bell saves “Cheesecake,” and Pudilova steals the round on MMAjunkie’s scorecard, 10-9.

Round 2 – Pudilova out early with punches – no touch of gloves. Moras kicks the leg and draws another punch. Pudilova moving laterally and picking her shots. Moras ducks under and misses on the takedown. Armbar attempt again. Pudilova working to pull out. She stands out of it again and escapes the hold. Moras driving forward, trying to get the takedown, and Pudilova just won’t let her. In side control on top, Pudilova works for mount and settles for guard when Moras adjusts. Pudilova now working ground and pound against the fence. Pudilova stands and fires down a shot, and Moras slaps on a reverse triangle. Pudilova pauses, and then she pulls out. Instead of engage, she stands up and pulls back. Moras tries to get back with punches. Both fighters are tired. A right hand drops Moras, and Pudilova turns up the heat as the round comes to an end. MMAjunkie scores the second frame 10-9 for Pudilova, putting her up 20-18.

Round 3 – Pudilova presses forward again, and the two slug it out. Moras a little short with her punches. They’re trading jabs. Moras breaks the engagement with a takedown attempt, and she just can’t get it. Pudilova stuffs it and gets back to her feet, and then pushes Moras to the cage, firing off a punch before disengaging. Moras still hanging in there and slinging leather. Her face and nose are bloody and swollen. Pudilova moving laterally to avoid the worst of Moras’ offense, but a jab is repeatedly tagging her. Moras charges forward and misses a clinch attempt, and Pudilova fires back with a combo of her own. Moras again shoots, and Pudilova’s sprawl is still there. Stuck on the leg, Moras adjusts and gets Pudilova on her back. In guard, Moras revists her first round strategy. Again, she misses the pass. Pudilova ties the head as Moras attempts to work ground and pound. Triangle setup from Pudilova is unsuccessful as Moras postures. They’re trading short shots as time winds down. Moras passes to half guard and Pudilova sweeps her, ending the fight with a one last punch to Moras. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 Pudilova, who gets the 30-27 decision.

Josh Burkman vs. Alex Morono

Round 1 – Burkman whips the leg early as Morono closes distance. Both miss on initial exchanges of punches, so they go back to the legs. Burkman favors the side kick low. Morono missing on a check hook as Burkman closes. Nice leg kick staggers Burkman’s footing. Big straight short for Morono, but another leg shot prompts Burkman to switch stances. Burkman runs right into a pair of punches and drops to his butt. As he rights himself, Morono jumps on the guillotine choke and drops to the mat. It’s in deep. Burkman has no choice. Go to sleep or tap. He chooses the latter.

Oskar Piechota vs. Tim Williams

Round 1 – Williams jabs in, standing very upright. Piechota feints and pushes back and gets caught with a right after throwing his first punches of the fight. Overhand right for Piechota puts a point on his scorecard, and then an overhand right. Williams digs the leg and resets. Williams goes high with a kick and draws a body shot. He redoubles his push and lands a one-two. Piechota fighting backward, and out of nowhere, cracks Williams with an overhand right. Williams instantly drops to the canvas. He’s holding on for dear life on his back as Piechota flurries away, but Hatley has seen enough and calls it off.
