UFC president Dana White cleared up all this confusion over Jon Jones fighting Alexander Gustafsson next.

“People think we’re in contract negotiations with Jon Jones – we’re not,” said White, in his latest UFC Download interview. “Jon still has five fights left on his contract. So what we’re doing now is trying to get him to sign the bout agreement for Gustafsson.”

Last month, it was reported that Jones-Gustafsson would have their rematch in August on pay-per-view. In 2013, Jones successfully defended his UFC light heavyweight title with a decision victory over “The Mauler.”

Most felt a rematch was in the cards, but Jones (20-1) fought Glover Teixeira next instead. “Bones” earned another decision, while Gustafsson (16-2) took down Jimi Manuwa.

Where things get a little murky is with Daniel Cormier. The former U.S. Olympian has been pushing hard to face Jones, and it now appears as if Cormier (15-0) is the fight the champion wants.

“He doesn’t want to fight Gustafsson,” White said. “Lorenzo (Fertitta) and I have a meeting with Jones on Thursday to get him to sign the bout agreement, and he’s asking to fight Cormier instead.”

Recently, it was revealed that Cormier suffered a serious knee injury prior to defeating Dan Henderson.

Jones answered a few questions via Twitter recently, while Gustafsson has also used social media to try and keep his title shot on track.
