UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson knows all about rematches in the Octagon, having to rematch both Ian McCall and Joseph Benavidez already and a possible rematch with John Dodson somewhere down the road.

Following his unanimous decision win over Ali Bagautinov at UFC 174 in June, “Mighty Mouse” was quickly put back on the docket to claim his fifth straight title defense against Chris Cariaso at UFC 177: Dillashaw vs Barao 2 in late August.

Taking the headlining act will be a second title fight between Renan Barao and the newly crowned champ TJ Dillashaw. Though the team alpha male trained product put on an underdog performance in their first match, Johnson sees it being another day in the office for Dillashaw (via Sexto Round).

“A lot of people want to get that immediate rematch, or they want a rematch in less than a year. But the thing is that it takes a long time to develop your skillset,” said Johnson.

Not many fans expected to see such a quick turnaround for Barao after being blasted for five rounds to a decisive TKO loss while coughing up the belt, but the Brazilian promises he was knocked unconscious in the opening round and never came back to life until he was backstage.

Dillashaw says he doesn’t buy into it and feels he took total control of the match from the third round on.

Johnson had more to say about the champ’s first title defense.

“TJ Dillashaw, he’s a great fighter,” he said. “When you look at his previous fights — when he fought Mike Easton and Raphael Assuncao — he’s always had that movement and footwork. And him training with Duane Ludwig has made him a lot better. So the fight’s gonna be a little bit different, but I don’t think the outcome is gonna be any different.”

Wait and see.
