Report: Justin Gaethje-Al Iaquinta Fight Booked a Day After Dana White Said it’s Off

It seems a potential Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight bout between Justin Gaethje and Al Iaquinta has been confirmed, according to reports.

Last month both fighters were on Twitter talking up the match up and it seemed like a matter of time before it announced. Although yesterday it seemed as if the fight was off, according to UFC President Dana White:

“That fight isn’t gonna happen. Iaquinta is absolutely 100 percent out of that fight” Dana White said on the "UFC Unfiltered” podcast.

ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto posted on Twitter on Wednesday evening that a bout between the all-action lightweights had been agreed to and the fighters will headline the UFC Fight Night event in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Aug. 25:

Both fighters suffered losses in April, with Gaethje involved in a “Fight of the Year” contender against Dustin Poirier, where he was knocked out.

Iaquinta took on the undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 on short notice after the Dagestani’s initial opponents, lightweight interim champion Tony Ferguson and featherweight champion Max Holloway, both had to withdraw due to injuries.
