Jon Jones

As far as he is concerned, Jon Jones is no longer the official UFC light heavyweight champion.

In what could be the final statement in the ongoing battle between Jones and UFC president Dana White, the fighter announced on Twitter that he has vacated the belt.

#ESPN Reyes vs Jan For the UFC light heavyweight championship of the world. As of right now, I got nothing to really gain fighting either of them,” he wrote. “Let me know if you guys want to set up a day in 2021 for that Izzy fight. Hopefully you guys will be willing to pay by then.”

Jones is coming off a victory over Dominick Reyes in which he defended the title. He also makes note of Jan Blachowicz and current UFC middleweight Israel Adesanya in the message.

“Bones out, when you see me in the streets just call me JJ,” he continued. “To the light heavyweight title Veni, vide, vici.”

The 32-year-old Jones has battled legal troubles outside the Octagon to rise through the ranks and be regarded as one of the top fighters in the history of the sport.

Back in 2018, he reclaimed the title with a victory over Alexander Gustafsson. The only time Jones has lost the belt since first winning it in 2011 came after legal issues.
