Minnesota vikings ready to rule the world

Jordan Addison’s route running sets him apart

Image

The Minnesota Vikings have a really good history of drafting wide receivers in the early 20s. Randy Moss, Percy Harvin and Justin Jefferson were all drafted between pick 21-23. Jordan Addison joins that list after the Vikings selected him at 23rd overall during the first round of the 2023 NFL draft.

Addison won the Biletnikoff Award in 2021 as the best wide receiver in college football. He was winning with great route running and maximizing his play after the catch.

His athletic testing left something to be desired and that’s why he was the fourth wide receiver off the board. It is worth noting that he had to pull himself out of drills due to an injury.

Image

The Vikings didn’t draft him for his athleticism, but rather how technically sound of a route runner he is. Addison is the best in the class at it and is a great complement to Jefferson.

Twitchy movement skills

Image

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

One of the ways that Justin Jefferson wins consistently is with quick twitch in and out of breaks. In a similar vein, Addison does that as well.

They aren’t identical players, but both fell into the 20s because there were questions about athleticism, fit and their frame. Jefferson proved everyone wrong and Addison is going to try and do the same.

The quick twitch in his routes is evident from an early point in his career. This rep was from the beginning of the 2021 season when Addison won the Biletnikoff Award. He moves with twitch and it starts from the release. His quick release prevents the defender from getting his hands on Addison and he can snap off his route in an instant to create immediate separation.

Route running is a science, but there is also an artistic element to it. Addison said as such during his introductory press conference.

He works so well in space when you watch him running routes. Savvy is the right way to describe what he does to create space. This rep is the epitome of his creativity.

At the top of the stem is where he makes most of his moves. This one was particularly impressive and, quite frankly, cool. The corner gets physical with him and instead of trying to shift through it, Addison ducks like he’s doing American Ninja Warrior and gets to the sideline quickly.

When you have the kind of route-running skills that Addison has, your footwork is one of your best traits.

He displays great footwork consistently and does so in multiple situations, one of which is at the top of the stem. His lack of physicality is concerning but he overcomes that regularly. This is also where I think he has better than his tested 4.49 speed. He is attacking the defender hard and the defender is giving him a lot of respect for it. What gets him separation at the stem is a hard step to the inside and he gets a free release out toward the sideline.

Savvy

Understanding the little nuances of football like leverage and tempo are key to be an excellent route runner. He does both of those things very well.

Here, Addison uses tempo to sell the short route and runs through the zone to maximize the zone opening.

His fit

The idea to improve the wide receiver position opposite Jefferson is one that I’ve been clamoring for since last season. This team needed it and they finally have one.

Last year, they didn’t have an explosive enough route runner nor did they have anyone who got consistently open underneath. That becomes a major problem when you are talking about that receiver getting single coverage against the opponents at best second cornerback. When projecting to the next level, Addison should be able to do that with ease and consistency.

One of the reasons why Addison is such a great fit is how talented he is at winning down the field as a deep threat. You pair the two together and it’s almost as if you have a second Jefferson archetype.

Needless to say, the future looks bright for Addison, especially since he will start as the de facto fourth option.

JWST captures images of the first asteroid belts seen beyond the Solar System
https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/jwst ... 47989.html
Image

About 25 light years away from Earth lies Fomalhaut, one of the brightest stars in the night sky. The Fomalhaut system has captivated astronomers for decades, but it’s only now that we’re developing a better understanding of it thanks to the James Webb Space Telescope. In a study published in the journal Nature Astronomy on Monday, a group of scientists made up primarily of astronomers from the University of Arizona and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory say the Fomalhaut system is far more complex than previously thought.

Since 1983, astronomers have known the 440 million-year-old Fomalhaut is surrounded by dust and debris, but what they didn’t expect to find was three different debris fields surrounding the star. One of those, the closest to Fomalhaut, is similar to our solar system’s asteroid belt but far more expansive than expected. As the New Scientist explains, Fomalhaut’s inner asteroid belt stretches from about seven astronomical units from the star to about 80 astronomical units out. To put those numbers in perspective, that’s about 10 times broader of an inner asteroid belt than astronomers expected to find.

Image

However, that’s not even the most interesting feature of the Fomalhaut system. Outside of Fomalhaut’s inner asteroid belt, there is a second debris belt that is tilted at 23 degrees from everything else in orbit of the star. “This is a truly unique aspect of the system,” András Gáspár, lead author on the study, told Science News. He added that the tilted belt could be the result of planets in orbit of Fomalhaut astronomers haven’t discovered yet.

“The belts around Fomalhaut are kind of a mystery novel: Where are the planets?” said George Rieke, one of the astronomers involved in the study. "I think it's not a very big leap to say there's probably a really interesting planetary system around the star.”

Yet out further out from Fomalhaut is an outer debris ring similar to our solar system’s Kuiper belt. It includes a feature Gáspár and his colleagues have named the Great Dust Cloud. It’s unclear if this feature is part of the Fomalhaut system or something shining from beyond it, but they suspect it was formed when two space rocks more than 400 miles wide collided with one another. According to Gáspár and company, there may be three or more planets about the size of Uranus and Neptune orbiting Fomalhaut. They’re now analyzing JWST images that may reveal the existence of those planetoids.

WWE Legend Billy Graham on Life Support, Dealing with a 'Myriad of Very Serious' Health Issues

Image

WWE legend Billy Graham is in "serious" condition on
life support, according to his wife Valerie.

In an update shared by the former WWE star's wife, doctors wanted to "remove" Billy, 79, from life support on Sunday night. "I refused," Valerie said. "He's a fighter and his will is strong even if his body isn't."

Valerie asked for "urgent prayers" for her husband while he battles a list of health concerns.

A GoFundMe page set up to assist with medical bills said Billy, whose legal name is Eldrige Wayne Coleman, is "dealing with a myriad of very serious health issues," including diabetes, congestive heart failure and a "major infection" in his skull and ears, among other ailments.

"He is facing a long period of rehab, and his insurance will only pay a portion of this," the fundraiser's description said.

Billy will also likely require "two months in a skilled nursing facility" once he is "stabilized," according to the page, which also said the former wrestler has lost 45 lbs. over the last three weeks.

Valerie continues "to work full time," but the couple's financial situation "has become dire" while her husband receives medical treatment, according to an update on GoFundMe. Both Valerie and her husband contracted COVID in the last two months, and Valerie "continues to struggle with what is now Long COVID," according to the update.

Other concerns threatening the superstar's health pertain to issues with his kidney, heart and lungs, and he has bed sores due to "depression" and "being in bed for months," per the fundraiser.

As of Monday, over $14,000 of the $25,000 goal has been donated to the fundraiser.

Billy, a former WWE World Heavyweight champion, was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004.

He wrestled under his legal name at the beginning of his career before changing his stage name to Billy Graham when he made his National Wrestling Alliance debut.

WWE Legend 'Superstar' Billy Graham Dead at 79
Image
https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/wwe-leg ... 28129.html

WWE Hall of Famer "Superstar" Billy Graham, born Eldridge Wayne Coleman, has died. The wrestler was 79.

His family confirmed the news to TMZ, telling the outlet he passed away Wednesday, May 17, with his wife Valerie and daughter by his side, after being taken off life support.

"A former WWE Champion, Graham’s flashy fashion style, over-the-top interviews and bodybuilder physique created the archetype for a generation of Superstars that followed in his footsteps," the organization noted in an official statement.

It was previously reported that Graham had been in the ICU for three weeks as a result of various health issues. Valerie divulged on Monday that doctors wanted to remove him from life support that night, but she initially refused.

According to his family, Billy's recent ailments took a toll on his body, causing him to lose 45 pounds while suffering from congestive heart failure, diabetes, hearing loss, and a significant infection in his ears and skull. His kidneys were also said to be failing.

The legend rose to fame during his standout career with the American Wrestling Association and later, the World Wrestling Federation.

He started going by Billy Graham, a reference to the notable Evangelist, in the 1970s, and added "Superstar" in 1972, according to the WWE.

Graham began emulating the iconic Muhammed Ali in interviews, coining the phrase, "I’m the man of the hour, the man with the power, too sweet to be sour!" The pro wrestler also experimented with dyeing his hair and honed a distinctive flamboyant style complete with earrings, skintight t-shirts and tie-dyed tights.

Billy went on to become a three-time world champion wrestler before retiring in 1987, later becoming a manager and commentator. He also mentored big-time wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Scott Steiner, Jesse Ventura, and Ric Flair, and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004.

Upon hearing the news of his passing, Flair took to Twitter to express his gratitude for Graham's guidance. "THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR INFLUENCE On My Career!" he wrote in part, along with a praying-hands emoji.

Along with his wife, Billy is survived by his two children from his previous marriage to Madelyn Miluse: son Joey and daughter Capella.

Davante Adams, Raiders, Chiefs Facing Lawsuit from Worker Over WR's Postgame Shove
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/100 ... game-shove

Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams, his team and the Kansas City Chiefs are among the five defendants facing a civil lawsuit stemming from the wide receiver pushing a video production crew member to the ground as Adams was leaving the field following an Oct. 10 game.

David Hudnall of the Kansas City Star reported Park Zebley filed the complaint in Jackson County Circuit Court.

While Adams was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault in Kansas City municipal court and is scheduled to appear in court on June 26, Zebley—who alleged he feared for his life and suffered concussion symptoms, per Hudnall—said that wasn't enough.

"A municipal misdemeanor battery charge is not sufficient," he said. "I'm looking for justice. You can't shove someone down and walk off like it didn't happen. Not in real life."

He was not punished by the NFL.

"Sorry to the guy I pushed over after the game," the since-deleted tweet said. "Obviously very frustrated at the way the game ended and when he ran in front of me as I exited that was my reaction and I felt horrible immediately. That's not me. MY APOLOGIES man hope you see this."

The suit named the Chiefs as well as Jackson County Sports Complex Authority and Landmark Events Staffing and alleged negligence on their part contributed to the shove happening. It also said Zebley received online death threats from fans when his identity was discovered.

As for the game, Kansas City defeated Adams' Raiders 30-29.

He finished with three catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns, although he collided with teammate Hunter Renfrow on a failed fourth-down conversion in the final minute. Las Vegas fell to 1-4 on the season as a result of the loss.
