UFC 251, first Fight Island card, features three championship bouts

UFC Fight Island is set for its premiere on July 11 and it is a doozy. UFC president Dana White joined ESPN's First Take on Tuesday to reveal that UFC 251 will feature three championship bouts on Yaz Island in Abu Dhabi.

"So, everybody has been dying to find out where Fight Island is, so today I'm here to announce that Fight Island is on Yaz Island in Abu Dhabi. Just like I said about Florida, how the commission and the government worked with us there to pull off this fight. Same thing with Abu Dhabi. These guys have been amazing partners in everything that we've ever done with them," White said in announcing Fight Island's location.

Fight Island's location isn't all that surprising considering the promotion's history with Abu Dhabi and the city's willingness to build facilities to fit what the UFC wanted in the past. Now they are doing it for an ongoing basis that will likely last until pandemic restrictions begin to lift for sports with live crowds around the globe.

The first fight card on Fight Island, UFC 251, is going all-in. White wanted to kick off the UFC's return from its two-month shutdown with three title fights at UFC 249, but was only able to keep two championship bouts on that card. He'll now get to move ahead with three at UFC 251, barring any unforeseen changes.

"We're going UFC 251, Saturday, July 11, in Abu Dhabi. And we literally just got (Gilbert) Burns vs. (Kamaru) Usman done. So that card: Usman vs. Burns, (Alexander) Volkanovski vs. (Max) Holloway, Peter Yan vs. (Jose) Aldo, Jessica Andrade vs. Rose Namajunas, and (Amanda) Ribas vs. (Paige) VanZant," White declared.

"The first card in Abu Dhabi is ridiculous. The second fight will be Wednesday, July 15; then Saturday, July 18; and then Saturday, July 25."

I’ll watch because it’s a fight night, and I don’t pay for my streams anyway...

But honestly...

I don’t give a fuck about volk vs max 2. Max offered shit dick all in the first fight. The ufc cannot seem to stop trying to get Max’s stock to the next level and it doesn’t seem like it will ever hit the market they want.

I have zero happiness about a kamaru fight. I’ll hope that burns wins, don’t honestly care.

Yan vs Aldo - excited for. I hope yan ko’s Aldo. When Aldo stopped using kicks, and became a boxer..is when i lost hope for him. If he can put his low kicks in, I think he can destroy yans European boxing stance.

Pvz - only belongs in porno. Absolute trash fighter, kept getting injured and figured the only way to stay relevant was to get fake tits. It worked.

I get the feeling this card has 3 title fights that are more then likely all going to decision.

Yan VS Aldo holy shit fireworks sure and someone going to sleep.

Aldo's Chin is diminished and Yan can recover well from being floored but those kicks mentioned here earlier scare me.

I want to root for Aldo so I don't want him to fight guys i like lol.

Used to hate him but he a legend now so kinda want him to continue doing well, just not VS Yan dammit.

I like this main card

Yan vs Aldo seems the most exciting title between the three but i think Usman vs Burns gonna be exciting as well.

I don't agree with people complaining for Max vs Volkanovski. Max is the 2nd most dominant champ in the FW history and since the immediate rematch is a thing with UFC Holloway deserves to get it.

Personaly i am curious to see how he adjusts in a rematch with an opponent that he didnt seem to have answers before. I am also hoping Alex will fight a less strategic fight and maybe risk and try to finish Max.

And last WHY THE HELL IS PVZ IN THE MAIN EVENT WHEN MUNHOZ AND EDGAR ARE FIGHTING IN THE PRELIMS.

Because pvz’ fake tits are bigger than Edgar. Die hard fans like Edgar...reality is the new age fans see a middle aged man who is 3-4 in his last 4 years and has used up every title shot and then some...so not many actually care to see him.

I don’t care for pvz but if I had a choice of seeing a midget bob up and down for 15 minutes, I’d rather see one with tits.
