Jon Jones walking away from fight with Francis Ngannou, UFC after 'unbelievable' negotiations
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/ufc-jon-jo ... 27586.html

Jon Jones not only appears to have given up hope for a future bout with Francis Ngannou, but sounds like he’s done with the UFC in general.

Jones, in a series of Tweets on Thursday, said he was in negotiations with the UFC “as we speak” about a future fight. Less than an hour later, though, things seemed to take a very different turn.

The UFC, according to Jones, wasn’t willing to pay him more to jump up to heavyweight for the fight against Ngannou. So, he’s walking away.

Jon Bones Jones

@JonnyBones

Currently in negotiation with @UFC as we speak

Jon Bones Jones

@JonnyBones

Before even discussing numbers, the UFC was unwilling to pay more for the Francis super fight / for me to move to heavyweight. Said I could possibly earn more in pay-per-view buys.

Jon Bones Jones

@JonnyBones

Maybe when they’re ready to do better business I’ll come back, until then health fitness and family.

It’s not clear what specifically went down in those negotiations.

Jones and Ngannou have been feuding back and forth on Twitter this week about a potential fight. Jones, the light heavyweight champion, has talked about moving to heavyweight for years now. He even hinted at doing so for a fight against Spite Miocic last year, but that never came to fruition.

Based on their conversations, both he and Ngannou appeared all in

Jon Bones Jones

@JonnyBones

First you can save the rest of your tongue pictures for your other homies and yes I’m right here, just waking up from watching that Derek Lewis fight again. You ain’t scaring nobody, I saw your heart. You’re a big old mouse, I’ll expose you

Ngannou is fresh off a win against Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 249 earlier this month, which he secured just 20 seconds into the bout with an early KO. The win marked his fourth-straight. Jones also had a win under his belt this year, having defended his light heavyweight title by beating Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision at UFC 247 in February. The 32-year-old hasn’t lost in more than a decade, with the only smudge on his resume being a no-contest after testing positive for turinabol against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in 2017.

A fight between the two would be extremely entertaining, to say the least.

Apparently, though, negotiations have gone south. It may be quite some time before that fight is locked down, if it happens at all.
I'm so fucking high.

Jones made $500,000 base pay for his fight with Reyes

Think about that

One of the UFCs most accomplished fighters/dominant champion doesn’t even make a million per fight in base pay after 12 years with the company

Absolutely hilarious how bad the UFC underpays.

:P
GSP is a lame
He lost to BJ
He lost to Hendricks
He ducked the rematch
He ducked Silva
He ducked Whittaker
He would lose to Nick in no time limit
He's the fakest champ ever crowned
abcd tells no lies

Lol. Punk brought with him a large audience and a name to attach to their event. Are you completely clueless or just pretending to be?

This seems like a good time for your occasional reminder that just a few months ago, the UFC paid out a $300M dividend to celebrity investors like Mark Wahlberg and Ben Affleck, none of whom have ever shed blood in the cage like Jon.

This. @DonnyStonevillage was absolutely right about Jones haters.

Obvious negotiation tactics, though. It's a shame that fighters have to make everything like this public but it's the only way to get UFC to do anything.

You know me sir. Manhoef might have pretty bad submission defense and a chin that is gone from being a middleweight fighting heavyweights for years, but damn at least the dude never literally cried like a sorority girl and made up an anxiety disorder to try to cry his way out of getting arrested :lol: :lol:

Well said sir. I could not agree more

Sadly though with every Jones fight that he lost clearly (Reyes) or looked like shit barely winning against puffed up middleweights (Santos, Smith) or boring and uninspired like against OSP, his fans always regurgitate that he “wasn’t training” and was “partying and doing coke” because for some reason it’s hard to grasp the fact that he isn’t exciting anymore since he can’t use PEDs to keep up energy after his massive weight cut.

It’s not that he isn’t training hard or partying and doing coke, the guy just isn’t fighting good against laughable “title contenders” In pancake thin division

I still think it’s amazing that the ufc just ignored Jon’s recent arrest. Zero discipline, zero consequences. :-?
