Great interview I just hope they pay Tony a lot of money just to keep fighting for the fans, like he saide he is already the champ. Could you imgine Tony vs Gaethje
Tony vs Nate
Tony vs Conor
Tony vs Dustin

Don't care much about Tony vs Khabib, bad style match up. Probably a boring fight or it gets canceled again.

I hope hes not gonna duck the top 5 in the bantamweight division. I think Sterling should get the next shot imo.

Cedjudo ducking?Serious?Have you seen his last few wins?

I never said he was ducking but he didnt call out anybody who's relevant in bantamweight or flyweight either.

CCC just wants to get paid.... Not by name but I like how he called out maxweight . Those are balls hanging between his legs.

It's a good breakdown, but I don't agree with everything, at least not everything in principal.

Saying that due to pressure, or while you are moving backwards, you can’t throw kicks as a general rule doesn’t make sense to me.

In Muay Thai teeps to the body or legs are the principal strike to keep pressure fighters away and to avoid the clinch.
You could say in MMA teeps are increasing your chances of being taken down, which is true of any kick. Teeps require less set up than roundhouse kicks so would be harder to telegraph, and also travel a shorter distance. Teeps if snapped back down after the kick is thrown are probably one of the harder kicks to catch.

Against Cowboy and even Pettis Tony has used front kicks to close distance better than his opponents used them to create distance.

Stephen Thompsons entire game is about keeping distance by using karate style side kicks out of his bladed stance.

Another example is Jon Jones who uses the oblique kick to keep fighters from pressuring him. The best example was probably in the second fight with Gustafsson.

Seeing the slowed down moments of the fight I noticed Cowboy always flares his elbows when throwing punches. Not only does Cowboy lose range and power by not putting his shoulders behind his punches he also loses range and power by flaring his elbows.

Ferguson is as unorthodox as they come so looking at traditional techniques while evaluating him isn’t even appropriate. I will say though that I think the Weasel misses the main point when people criticize Tony’s style of defense. I don’t think anyone is saying he gets hit each time his opponents are throwing strikes at him, and like he has pointed out statistics show that isn’t the case, the point is when he gets hit, he is going to eat it clean and the statistics support this with the number of times he has been dropped. It’s a very high-risk style of defense.

I thought Cowboy would try throwing more push kicks and leg kicks. Even if Cowboy ended up being taken down, he likely had as much or more of a chance for success on the ground than he did standing. However, I do not think it would have made much of a difference at all. I expected Tony to get a TKO finish. The pressure Tony puts on his opponents is at a different level than anyone in MMA.

Gee, I’m shocked that Cowboy took a short notice fight against a lanky pressure fighter and lost again.

Shocked.

Who could ever predicted such a thing??

In regards to teeps Cowboy attempted them and Tony kept trying to catch them. That could be discouraging the teep.

I have never seen a fighter recover from a 1st rd like that and return so agressive like a scene from a movie.
