Best Rushmore of wins?

Postby Mr Meow » Mon Jul 09, 2018 6:24 pm

Simple question. Whose best 4 wins are the best 4 wins of any fighter in mma history?

We are not including the other parts of this fighters career. For example if Joe Blow went 4-44 but beat a Prime Jon Jones, Fedor, Cro Cop and Philly Hoffman, we would not hold losing 44 bouts against him.

A big part to consider is when the opposition was defeated. For example, Josh Koshecks win over Hughes is basically worthless other than name value while Hallman beating Hughes twice means a lot more

You all are not too dumb, you can sort this concept out

So who has the best rushmore of wins? I will throw out some examples. When we get a few good examples I will turn this into a poll next week and we can then vote on it.

BJ Penn

Matt Hughes (35-3, multiple time reigning champ going into the fight)
Takanori Gomi (14-1, in the middle of one of the best runs any lightweight has ever had BJ beat him)
Joe Stevenson (27-7, 13-1 in the past 5 years heading into this)
Sean Sherk (34-2-1, former champ, never lost the belt, came back looking just as roided up as before)

Chuck Liddel

Tito Ortiz (x2, both times Tito was still Tito and not past him prime yet)
Randy Couture (x2, Randy was a future HW champ a LHW champ when Liddel beat him)
Babalu Sobral (x2, 20-4, 30-5, the records when Lidel fought Babalu. He beat a lot of good fighters like shogun between Lidell ass kickings)
Kevin Randleman (coming off losing his HW title to Couture after defending it, first fight at LHW and Lidell slept him)

Masakatsu Funaki

Bas Rutten (Early in El Guapos career but still a phenomenal win)
Ken Shamrock (Back when Shamrock was in his prime and all sorts of juicy)
Frank Shamrock (Back when he was prime and on the juice)
Semmy Schilt (x2, although Semmy was not a world champ material in mma, he was so much larger than Funaki it was comical)

Kiyoshi Tamura

Dave Menne (22-5 headed into this, not far from winning ufc gold after this loss)
Jeremy Horn (41-6-4 going into this, beat guys like Chuck before losing to Tamura)
Pat Millitech (26-3-2 going into it, still had his welterweight title, was in between successful defense of it when he lost to Tamura)
Volk Han (underrated fighter in mma history, HW sized combat Sambo specialist with a great career)

Raphael Assuncao

TJ Dildoshaw (before TJ was champ but still quality win)
Jorge Masvidal (beat him on the indies but the size descripancy and how good Jorge are make it impressive Assuncao beat him)
Joe Lauzon (see Masvidal description. Assuncao armbared Joe though)
Marlon Moraes (close fight but a clear win for Assuncao)

Now I am not saying any of these people have the best rushmore of wins in mma. I am just throwing out some names and looking at what I consider to be their best wins.

Give me your name and the best 4 wins they have. After a week or so I will make a thread with a poll of the consensus options to vote on.
Officially 7-2 in sig bets. *pats back* 5 time A league champion. :gold: :gold: :gold: :gold: :gold:

Good list Meow its nice to an OG linker that can appreciate the gravity of these fighters' accomplishments and how monumental they were at the time. They literally changed the landscape of MMA, sadly many younger casual Linkers don't give these fighters credit because they don't have carefully manicured opponents to pad their fake records. These guys fought all takers!

Matt Hughes

B.J. Penn
Royce Gracie
Joe Rigg
Frank Trigg
Georges St-Pierre

I know these guys now don't have the best records because they would literally fight anyone and Dana didn't carefully craft their careers to pad their records but they are still great wins for Matt. I know you said Rushmore but I had to add 5 just to fit GSP and Penn in together because NOBODY COULD BEAT A PRIME MATT HUGHES!

Thank you mr sir!

Hughes has a great rushmore. BJ, GSP, Trigg and Sakurai would be my best wins for him and all 4 are phenomenal.

Picking just 4 wins for Hendo is really tough. Picking his top 4 involves cutting out a lot of valuable options

I would say probably

Big Nog
Wandy
Fedor
Franklin
In no order

Probably GSP or Hendrick's win streak. If you think Hendricks beat GSP that is. Only other candidate is Jon Jones. In my opinion four wins just aren't enough. It's like your best seven wins.

Totally legit point mr sir.

I just started this thread a discussion for who has the best 4 scalps on their resume solely. Not so much the overall career or winning the best 4 fights in a row. More so whose best 4 wins are the best 4 wins for any fighter.

Henderson has a very good list of wins, but he didnt beat prime Wanderlei. He beat Wanderlei only a few months after Wanderlei was destroyed by Cro Cop.

By the end of PRIDE, Wand was already damaged goods.
