I think the fighters are getting better, due to an overall understanding of mma as a whole.

I think the fighters from back in the day, were around for longer, due to experience.

I also think the competition before, didn't have the understanding we have now of mma, and instead were relying on their strength and how to capitalize on that or at least get back to it in the course of a fight.

I do believe the camps are a bit weaker now, and it's causing fighters to believe the bullshit.

I'm enjoying the new set of fighters who are well rounded, but can impose a specific strategy. Especially when the strategy isn't their original combat sport, or martial art. It's crazy the number of grapplers that strike, the opposite, and fighters with crazy amounts of sub/ko wins these days. I think the MMA skillset is improving overall, but some kinks still need to be worked out at the highest level. More fighters are becoming well rounded. A lot of top fighters are established names in another combat sport as well, but it's mainly in grappling. Some divisions are aging, certain sports aren't showing up, and some divisions are still developing.

Some of these skills are submission defense, wrestling defense, footwork and feints. The best Matt Hughes probably couldn't beat Rick Story who will be cut from the UFC after his next loss. Last point the coaching has gotten better everyone thinks Ronda Rousey is a bum but Greg Jackson figured her out. Back in Fedor's day what diabolical minds were figuring him out?

That didn't happen, dude - he lost a really, really close fight.

You know I don't really even remember how I felt about who won that fight...I vaguely remember Johny claiming he only went 70% but I don't know if it was for that fight. Might have to watch it again at some point.

I didn't know who the judges were going to give it to, but thought it was just about for Hendricks.

That was a close-as-fuck fight.

My version of this statement is that we are entering an era/breed of fighters where they have been fans of the sport since the "Golden Age"/"New Breed". These are educated people who have visual learning experience, which, in theory, should help translate the application of the learned technique much easier as it wasn't something completely foreign that had to be learned from the ground up.

Or whatever, it's all a simulation anyway,

I totally disagree with this statement from the past me.

We’re still seeing the same archetypal fighters using the same techniques and same strategies to win.
