I've heard a number of fighters say this before a fight. Be it from a heavy under dog or a fighter taking a fight on short notice. They often say something along the lines as "Ah, I've got nothing to lose, he has everything to lose". Or even the reporter might say "This is a fight where you really have nothing to lose...etc". I've heard Kyran Brant use this phrase a few times, maybe Ariel as well.
I feel that there is always a lot to lose, your ranking, money, sponsors, health, etc. Plus, it makes your opponent seem like he has trained more intensively than you since he has "everything to lose". Maybe it just mean's less pressure is on you.
Thoughts on this mindset?
