Ortega turns down Stephens

Postby PainDog » Fri Jul 06, 2018 2:39 am

Ortega's manager was called out by Dana White for not taking a last minute replacement fight with Jeremy Stephens after Holloway had to pull out with his health issues.

https://www.mmaweekly.com/dana-white-co ... at-ufc-226

Personally I dont want Ortega to fight Stephens. It seems like such a rush to gain a little bit in the short term and ignoring a lot in the long term.

Ortega vs. Holloway is the fight I have been hoping for and I believe fight fans even the biggest casuals want to see.

Why jeopardize it by having Ortega fight Stephens?

At the moment their is no diagnosis for Max's condition.

Maybe he has something that needs a lengthy recovery time. If that is the case another match can be put together, perhaps Ortega against the winner of the Aldo and Stepehens fight (hoping Aldo gets the win).

On the other hand maybe after a proper diagnosis its found his condition isn't bad and he will be able to compete soon, if that's the case they could rebook this fight.

In general I dont like last minute replacements unless the fight card absolutely is depending on the fight like Khabib vs. Iaquinta or Cormier vs. Silva.

Imagine you build up UFC 200 and all you end up with was Nunes vs. Tate....

I am torn between this  and what PD says.

Ofc i would like to see Ortega fight as soon as possible vs whoever. Stevens in particular would be a good fight for sure. On the other hand Max vs Ortega is a dream match up and i wouldnt want it to get scrapped.

I think we can all agree Mighty Mouse is a pussy for not stepping in on short notice while injured to face Ortega.

Stay down in your division clown!

Soo

Ortega got to this spot by a vet giving the shot on short notice

&

He won't give the same shot to another vet?

On top of the fact that all I hear from Ortega regarding gameplan is that he lets the fight dictactate the gameplan.. so if thats the case why are you so worried about a short notice bout?

This shit was lame, Ortega should of jumped on this fight vs Stephens no questions asked.. This is the type of shit that makes Legends; i.e Frankie. Conor, etc..

Meh. I'm glad we're not getting another interim belt and I'd rather see Stephens against Aldo.

Agree with Shuck. Ortega's only where he's at because someone stepped up on short notice and now he can't do the same? Fuck him.

I'm from an era where guys took short notice fights. They stepped up and put it all on the line.

Fortune favors the bold. Ortega would have kicked Stephens ass.
