MMA Journeymen's Best Wins

Postby Mr Meow » Fri Jan 31, 2020 3:05 pm

List some mma journeymen you like and the best wins they have

Frag gave me this idea partially with his thread on Cowboy not being a Journeyman, will produce a few examples i posted then

Chris Lytle, wins against Hardy and Misaski and Serra

Satoru Kitaoka, wins against Condit, Daley, Kawajiri, Gomi in Sengoku and Cruickshank

Matt Brown. Wins against Wonderboy, Douglas Lima, Swick, Mein

Hiromitsu Kanehara. Wins against Dave Menne and Jeremy Horn

Jason Delucia. Wins against Funaki, Suzuki, Lytle,

Pete Spratt. Wins against. Matt Brown, Von Flue, Robbie Lawler (injury) Rich Clementi

Who are some of your favorite Journeymen and who are the best wins of their career? Guys like journeymen who would never win the title still had potential to beat great fighters any given night.

Damn those are good ones. I forgot all about Clementi fighting Rumble on short notice and choking him out.

Barnett could be considered it. Normally I do not consider a world champ to be a journeymen but the world title he won was stripped when he flunked another ped test

Grey area indeed sir

I concur in MMA especially it's hard to relegate a journeyman status to a champion but in boxing with the lack of meaning behind so many belts made for some journeyman to win a title.
The definition of journeyman is a worker or athlete who is reliable but not outstanding so I guess Barnett could easily be considered outstanding with his record.
I rescind my nomination and instead Ben Rothwell in his place since Rothwell has the win over him

Ben Rothwell
Josh Barnett, Alistair Overeem, Roy Nelson, Ricco Rodriguez
