A pair of lighter weight bouts have been added to the fight card of UFC on FOX Sports 1 #2. UFC officials confirmed featherweights Darren Elkins vs. Hatsu Hioki and bantamweights Erik Perez vs. Takeya Mizugaki are set to meet at the August 28 event, which takes place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. A rematch between welterweight contenders Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann is expected serve as the night’s main event. Once promising contenders, both Elkins (16-3) and Hioki (26-6-2) now look to right their ships after suffering recent setbacks. A former lightweight, Elkins quietly pieced together a five-fight win streak at featherweight before crumbling to a 68-second TKO as a late replacement against Chad Mendes at UFC on FOX 7. He’ll take on Hioki, a Japanese grappling ace who entered the UFC in early-2012 heralded as one of the top featherweights in the world. Following a pair of decision victories over George Roop and Bart Palaszewski, Hioki turned down a title fight against UFC champion Jose Aldo in order to get further Octagon experience. The decision ultimately backfired, as the 29-year-old went on to drop consecutive decisions to Ricardo Lamas and Clay Guida. In contrast, both Perez (13-4) and Mizugaki (17-7-2) look to continue climbing up the bantamweight ladder by extending their current win streaks. Regarded as one of the top prospects within the division, the 23-year-old Perez has finished all three of his UFC bouts within the first round, submitting John Albert then knocking out Ken Stone and Byron Bloodworth. He’ll fight Mizugaki, a Japanese veteran riding consecutive decision victories over Jeff Hougland and Bryan Caraway. The entire updated UFC on FOX Sports 1 #2 fight card can be seen below.
