UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir
UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir (formerly known as Dos Santos vs. Overeem) is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on May 26, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
For the first time in UFC history all fights on a PPV main card will be Heavyweight bouts.
On April 4th, 2012 it was announced Heavyweight Championship challenger Alistair Overeem had failed a pre-fight drug test due to elevated levels of testosterone. The UFC, however, did not wait until Overeem's licensure hearing in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and announced that former champion Frank Mir was named as a replacement. The following day, it was announced that Mir's original opponent, Cain Velasquez would be facing Antonio Silva. The initial shuffling left Roy Nelson without an opponent, until Gabriel Gonzaga was tabbed as his replacement and undefeated and former NAAFS Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic to face fellow undefeated Shane Del Rosario.
Officials announced more shuffling to the card on May 2, 2012. Dave Herman replaced Gonzaga and faces Nelson and former WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner was signed to face Edson Barboza instead of Evan Dunham.
During the week before the card, Lavar Johnson coming off his May 5, 2012 victory, agreed to step in for an injured Mark Hunt to face Stefan Struve.
