UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill
UFC 130: Edgar vs. Maynard 3 is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. While not officially announced by the organization, it is expected to take place on May 28, 2011 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
UFC.com's Ultimate Insider reported that the middleweight clash between Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann was signed for UFC 130. However, a UFC source with knowledge of the situation told MMA Fighting on February 4, 2011 that the fight was never signed and that Silva has informed the organization that he won't be healthy enough to compete on the card.
On February 6, 2011, Dana White once again confirmed that the Silva vs. Stann matchup would take place at UFC 130. "It's on," White said flatly of the matchup. "It's on." On February 12, 2011, MMA Junkie reported, however, that Stann would be facing the returning Jorge Santiago. Santiago, former holder of the recently-vacated Sengoku Middleweight Championship, had negotiated his release from the Japanese organization.
Beginning on February 9, 2011, rumors began that Thiago Silva would be replaced by Rashad Evans for the bout against Quinton Jackson. The rumors were so strong, that casinos opened Evans as a 2-1 favorite over Jackson. The injury to Silva was confirmed two days later, however, it was announced that Matt Hamill was pulled from his UFC 129: St. Pierre vs. Shields bout against Phil Davis to fight Rampage at UFC 130.
On April 20, 2011, UFC officials announced that an undisclosed injury forced Brad Pickett out of his bout with Miguel Torres, and that Demetrious Johnson (who had been scheduled to fight Renan Pegado that evening) stepped in as Pickett's replacement. The following day MMAJunkie reported that former Tachi Palace Fights Bantamweight Champion Cole Escovedo had stepped up to fight Barao.
On April 28, 2011, UFC officials announced that an undisclosed injury forced Norifumi Yamamoto out of his bout with Chris Cariaso and that Michael McDonald would take his place.
On May 5, 2011, UFC officials announced that an undisclosed injury forced Cody McKenzie out of his bout with Bart Palaszewski and that Gleison Tibau would take his place. Two weeks later, Palaszewski was forced to pull out of the match with Tibau and was replaced by Rafaello Oliveira.
On May 9, 2011, UFC officials announced that the headlining bout of the event had been scrapped due to injuries to both Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard. The Quinton Jackson vs. Matt Hamill bout was elevated to the main event, while Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story was added to the pay per view broadcast and Tim Boetsch vs. Kendall Grove was added to the Spike TV broadcast.
