Mixed Martial Arts Career
WEC
Cantwell lost his WEC debut against Brian Stann, who would then go on to become the divisions Champion.
After running through Justin McElfresh and Tim McKenzie, beating both opponents in the first round, Cantwell was given a rematch with Stann, for the WEC Light Heavyweight title. This gave Cantwell an opportunity to make up for his one loss on his professional career.
The title bout happened at WEC 35 and Cantwell defeated the champ in the same fashion that he had been finished in their first fight. Cantwell became the WEC's undisputed and last Light Heavyweight Champion.
Move to UFC
With the WEC dropping it's Light Heavyweight and Middleweight divisions, and most of the fighters folding into the UFC, Cantwell found himself among the UFC's stacked Light Heavyweight division.
Cantwell's UFC debut was supposed to be against Brian Stann for a third fight, but due to a foot injury Stann had to pull out of the fight.
His debut took place against Razak Al-Hassan, who replaced Stann, at UFC: Fight for the Troops on December 10, 2008. Cantwell made a statement with a vicious armbar, ending the fight in the first round at 4:04.
