Mixed Martial Arts Career

Richard "Cleet" Crunkilton began competing in professional mixed martial arts in 1999, going 6-0 in smaller promotions, with a notable victory over Bao Quach. He mad his WEC debut at WEC 3: All or Nothing against Cruz Gomez, winning via TKO (Punches). Crunkilton fought his next two fights in the WEC as well, winning both by submission. His three straight victories in the WEC improving his record to 9-0.

Crunkilton's nine fight win streak came to a close in his UFC debut against former WEC Lightweight Champion Hermes Franca, though he had not won the title at this point in his career. He would rebound from the loss winning his next six fights, four of which took place under the WEC banner. The win-streak placed Crunkilton into position to compete for the promotion's Lightweight title, held by Rob McCullough. The two met up at WEC 30: McCullough vs. Crunkilton, where Crunkilton was handed his second career loss via TKO (Punches).

Once again rebounding from a loss, Crunkilton defeated Sergio Gomez at WEC 33: Marshall vs. Stann on March 26, 2008.

Crunkilton was forced to withdraw from his bout with Bart Palaszewski at WEC 39 because of a knee injury. He was scheduled to fight Donald Cerrone on June 7, 2009 at WEC 41, but dropped out due to another undiclosed injury. He finally fought on October 10, 2009 at WEC 43: Cerrone vs. Henderson againt WEC newcomer and M-1 Global veteran Dave Jansen. Crunkilton lost the fight via unanimous decision.

It was announced in August 2010 that Crunkilton would be a participant in a one night eight-man Lightweight tournament for the Shine Fights promotion.
