Mixed Martial Arts Career
Catone got his start when he began wrestling in middle school. Catone stayed with the sport all through his middle and high school years. While in high school, Catone won numerous awards and titles in wrestling, he was a New Jersey State place winner, Three-time Division I national qualifier, 2x Division I conference champion and 100 Division I career wins. He then was rewarded with a scholarship to wrestle for Rider University where he won Male Athlete of the Year in 2004. Catone graduated from Rider with a bachelors degree in psychology. After Catone finished college, he realized that he did not want to give up the sport of wrestling. So Catone then found a mixed martial arts training facility in 2005 and started working hard on his boxing and jujitsu skills to become a successful pro mixed martial artist. Currently, Catone holds a purple belt in jujitsu.
UFC Career
Catone's first UFC fight was scheduled to be against Amir Sadollah at UFC 91. However, due to a leg infection, Sadollah withdrew from the match. A replacement for Sadollah could not be found so the match was scrubbed from the card.
The match against Sadollah was rescheduled for February 7th, 2009 at UFC Fight Night 17. On January 23, Sadollah was, again, forced to withdraw from the fight due, this time to a fractured clavicle.
Catone finally made his debut, defeating Derek Downey via keylock in the second round. The fight was held at UFC Fight Night 17.
Catone's second fight for the UFC was against The Ultimate Fighter alum Tim Credeur at UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann. Catone was defeated in the second round via Guillotine Choke.
He then fought Mark Munoz at UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira, who was coming off a stunning head kick knockout of Matt Hamill, on August 29, 2009. Catone ended up losing a close split decision.
Catone returned to action at UFC Fight Night 20, where he faced off against former The Ultimate Fighter 3 contestant Jesse Forbes. A very entertaining fight, it ended up going to the judges score cards, with Catone squeaking out a Decision (Split), ending his two-fight slide.
