Muay-Thai
From FightWiki
Muay-Thai is a form of Kick boxing developed in Thailand. Also known as "the science of the eight limbs" Muay Thai is unique as it uses 6 more strikes than normal boxing and 4 more than American Style kick boxing. By training strikes involving the elbows and Knees in addition to kicks and punches, Muay Thai fighters are almost always better equipped for close range fighting than their opponent. This is largely due to the fact that elbows and knee strikes can be thrown at very close distances such as "The Muay Thai clench" where normal strikes and kicks are rendered ineffective. Today Muay Thai has exploded in popularity due to its use in MMA and has become the staple stand-up style for nearly all MMA fighters. While there are certainly exceptions, Muay-Thai is proving to be the most effective and most used form of stand up fighting.
Notable practitioner of the form are Anderson Silva, Wanderlei Silva, Thiago Alves, Pedro Rizzo, Mirko Filipovic, James irvin and Spencer Fisher.
