[edit] Mixed Martial Arts Career
Karl was set to headline M-1 Global Presents: Breakthrough against top contender Nick Thompson but his opponent was later changed to journeyman John Doyle due to an injury Thompson suffered during training. He went on to defeat Doyle with a rear naked choke in the first round.
[edit] DREAM / Strikeforce
In October of 2009, it was announced that Amoussou had signed a four-fight deal with DREAM. He also signed an exclusive management contract with M-1 Global, joining Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi, and Fedor Emelianenko.
Due to DREAM having a strategic partnership with Strikeforce, it was later learned that Amoussou would return to action at Strikeforce Challengers 6: Prangley vs. Amoussou, that took place February 26, 2010 in San Jose, California, against then-current Shark Fights Light Heavyweight Champion Trevor Prangley. The bout would be Prangley's return to the Middleweight division. While the action in the opening round wasn't always constant, it was explosive. Amoussou peppered Prangley with shots while bobbing and weaving. Meanwhile, the five-time Strikeforce veteran in Prangley stood firm in the pocket and fired powerful shots in return. Neither earned a decided advantage in the clinch early, but an open-handed left-counter from Prangley caught Amoussou directly in the right eye, and he staggered to the fence. The action was halted with 46 seconds left in the frame for a doctor's inspection, but with Amoussou unable to open his eye immediately following the accidental foul the fight was waved off, resulting in a technical draw. Both fighters looked disappointed with the result, and the crowd voiced its displeasure as well, but there was little choice in the matter.
He made his DREAM debut on July 10, 2010 at DREAM 15, where he faced off against PRIDE, UFC, and Sengoku veteran Kazuhiro Nakamura. Nakamura controlled the majority of the action on the floor, and he defended well in the few brief moments that Amoussou threatened on the feet. Amoussou threatened at times from his back, but Nakamura controlled the majority of the action and was awarded the Decision (Unanimous).
