Early Career

Hardonk started off his mixed martial arts career fighting in the Netherlands and Italy, as well as Japan and Hawaii. His final two wins prior to joining the UFC were against [The Ultimate Fighter 10: Heavyweights]] contestant Wes Sims' and Ibragim Magomedov.

UFC

Hardonk made his UFC debut at UFC 65: Bad Intentions on November 18, 2006, defeating Sherman Pendergarst by technical knockout due to leg kicks.

His next fight was at UFC Fight Night 9: Stevenson vs. Guillard against Justin McCully, a late-notice replacement for Hardonk's original opponent, former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir, as he had to drop out due to a shoulder injury. Hardonk lost to McCully via unanimous decision.

Hardonk then fought Frank Mir at UFC 74: Respect on August 25, 2007. Hardonk lost due to a kimura lock early in the first round. He then bounced back against Colin Robinson at UFC 80: Rapid Fire in January 2008, winning by TKO 17 seconds into the first round. The win over Robinson began a three-fight UFC win streak that included wins over Eddie Sanchez and Mike Wessel.

Hardonk next fought Cheick Kongo at UFC 97: Redemption. Kongo ended up victorious, ending the fight in the second round with punches.

Hadonk returned at UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun in October 2009 for his final bout, taking on former training partner Patrick Barry. Barry won the Fight of the Night via TKO (Strikes) in the second round.

In August 2010, Hardonk announced that he would be officially retiring from MMA and that he would become a full-time trainer at his gym "Dynamix Martial Arts" located in Santa Monica, California.
