UFC Career
Gusmao made his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut at UFC 87: Seek and Destroy where he obtained his first lost by unanimous decision to NCAA Wrestling standout Jon Jones.
He was scheduled to take on Houston Alexander, who was on a three-fight losing streak, at UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida, but Alexander was forced off the card due to injury. Krzysztof Soszynski, a Team Quest stand-out and The Ultimate Fighter 8 alum, took Alexander's place, and ended the fight at 3:17 of the first round, knocking Gusmao out.
