Andre Galvao is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist who has competed for DREAM and took part in the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship in 2007. Galvao won the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in 2005 (Middleweight), 2007 and 2008 (Medium-Heavyweight). Andre is currently contracted to fight for both Strikeforce and DREAM.
Announcing to his fans in November of 2009, Galvao stated that he would be making his Strikeforce debut in December 2009. The debut would not end up taking place in 2009, but instead it would take place on March 26, 2010 against Strikeforce veteran Luke Stewart. The bout took place at ShoMMA 7: Johnson vs. Mahe, where Galvao won the fight by Decision (Split).
Galvao's next fight with Strikeforce took place on August 21, 2010 at Strikeforce: Houston, where he faced off against one-time UFC and one-time PRIDE veteran Jorge Patino. Though Galvao was in trouble during the first round, he fought back in the second frame, using his grappling expertise. Patino found himself defending takedowns and submission attempts for the final two rounds, and when his defense proved capable, Galvao elected to strike from the back. Patino, who fought valiantly in the opening five minutes, fell victim to fatigue and was caught flush by several solid punches on the floor before Galvao was awarded a TKO win at the 2:45 mark of the third round.
