Mixed Martial Arts Career
Abdul Mohamed began competing in mixed martial arts in 2003. After going 6-3-1, Mohamed faced Paul Daley for the Cage Warriors Welterweight Championship. Unfortunately for both fighters, the fight ended up a Draw, after the two fought five, five-minute rounds. After the Draw with Daley, Mohamed went 3-0, earning himself a shot at the vacant, first-ever Cage Rage British Lightweight Championship against Alexandre Izidro. Mohamed defeated Izidro with a unanimous decision to win himself the championship.
In his next bout Mohamed defeated Izidro again, in a different promotion, and then returned to Cage Rage to fight Jean Silva, a former Cage Rage Lightweight Champion, though the fight was a non-title affair.
Mohamed next fought for the Cage Rage World Lightweight Championship, against then-champion Vitor Ribeiro, losing by a Kimura. It was reported following the fight that Mohamed declined a contract with the UFC, deciding to return to defend his British Lightweight Championship against Ross Pointon, successfully defending it by KO'ing Pointon with a spinning back fist. After going 1-1 in another promotion, Mohamed returned to once again defend his Cage Rage British Lightweight Championship at CR 24: Feel the Pain against Robbie Olivier, winning a decision.
With Cage Rage closing its doors, Mohamed became the last Cage Rage British Lightweight Champion.
Post-Cage Rage Career
Mohamed fought three times in 2008, the first being a submission loss to Luciano Azevedo, the second being a Draw with future The Ultimate Fighter 9 competitor Andre Winner, and the third fight was a unanimous decision win over the Lightweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter 9, Ross Pearson.
It was reported that Mohamed had signed a contract with the UFC, making his debut at UFC 93: Franklin vs. Henderson.
- “I call him mini Randy," training partner Quinton "Rampage" Jackson told the website Gazettelive, "because he looks like Randy Couture. He will be champion, all he has to do is believe in himself."
A fight with the UFC never materialized, because on June 27, 2009, Mohamed returned to action to face Tim Radcliffe at the inaugural BAMMA event, losing a unanimous decision.
Mohamed followed this up with two successive losses, before defeating Rasmus Bendtsen at Tenth Legion: Decimation to take the Tenth Legion Lightweight Championship.
In September 2010, Mohamed debuted for the KUMMA organisation, defeating veteran Ian Jones via guillotine choke. This was Mohamed's first ever submission victory.
In April 2011, Mohamed defended his Tenth Legion Lightweight Championship with a unanimous decision victory over Andrew Fisher.
