== Mixed Martial Arts Career ==
Wilcox started wrestling at the age five. He would continue to wrestle throughout high school and go on to Edinboro University. His college wrestling career would be cut short due to a concussion, so he took up bodybuilding as a way to stay active. Interestingly, when Wilcox was bodybuilding he weighed 205 pounds (where he currently competes at 155 lbs).

After watching an episode of The Ultimate Fighter with his wife, Leslie, where he saw his former college wrestling teammate Josh Koscheck competing, Wilcox decided it was time for a career change.

: “If Kos can do it that I can surely do it,” said Wilcox. “Kos inspired me to get into it and it really fit me.”

Wilcox made his professional debut in 2006, where he competed in the Extreme Challenge Eight-man Welterweight Tournament, on July 15, 2006. The first two rounds of the tournament was to be decided on that day, while a month later, the two remaining fighters would face one another for the Extreme Challenge Welterweight title. In the opening round of the tournament he faced off against former MCC Lightweight Champion Bobby Voelker, where he won a Decision (Unanimous) to move to the next round. He then faced off against Chad Reiner in one of the tournament’s semi-final match-ups. Wilcox got caught in an armbar in the first round, losing his first professional fight.

Two months later Wilcox returned to action to face off against Dan Hornbuckle at a Total Fight Challenge event. Hornbuckle handed Wilcox his second straight loss due to TKO (Punches).

After the loss, he returned to Extreme Challenge for his next three fights. He won all three fights, two by Decision (Unanimous) and the third by TKO (Punches), improving his record to 4-2.

Once he got in touch with his former Wrestling teammate [[Josh Koscheck, and began training with him, Wilcox moved to Fresno, California to begin training with American Kickboxing Academy.

: “First thing they did was put me in a ring with Phil Baroni and (Jon) Fitch,” said Wilcox. “They liked what they saw and I was on the team.”

His first fight in 2008 was against The Ultimate Fighter cast-member Gabe Ruediger, whom he went on to defeat by Decision (Unanimous).

=== Strikeforce Career ===
From there, Wilcox made his Strikeforce debut, facing PRIDE and DREAM veteran Mitsuhiro Ishida on September 20, 2008 at Strikeforce Playboy Mansion II. Early in the first round, Wilcox got caught in an armbar and was forced to tap, losing his debut.

After winning a Decision (Unanimous) outside of Strikeforce, Wilcox returned to the promotion to face off against Cesar Gracie trained fighter, David Douglas. The bout took place at Strikeforce Carano vs Cyborg, and Wilcox submitted his opponent by Rear Naked Choke, mid-way through the third round.

In December of 2009, Wilcox was a late replacement for Bryan Travers, where he faced off against Daisuke Nakamura on December 19, 2009 at Strikeforce Evolution. Wilcox controlled the bout for all three rounds to win the Decision (Unanimous), walking away with a disclosed salary of $5,000.

Wilcox returned to action at ShoMMA 7 Johnson vs Mahe on March 26, 2010 where he faced Shamar Bailey in a Catchweight bout of 160 lbs. He went on to win the bout by Decision (Unanimous), controlling the pace of the fight for all three rounds.
