UFC 183 play-by-play and live results

LAS VEGAS – MMAjunkie is on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC 183 event.

The card, which features a middleweight bout between Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz, takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Follow along with our round-by-round updates and official results beginning at approximately 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT) for the UFC Fight Pass and FOX Sports 1 prelims and 10 p.m. ET for the pay-per-view main card.

Result: Medical issues scrapped this fight just prior to both men stepping into the cage.

Andy Enz (7-3 MMA, 0-3 UFC) vs. Thiago “Marreta” Santos (10-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC)

Round 1 – Enz comes out punching, but he gets all air. Santos answers back, and these two look ready to bang. Low kicks mixed in from both as they go back and forth. Santos with a slapping left kick to the body. Santos the aggressor right now, and he drives forward with punches. Enz backs away and winds up landing a nice counter right. Santos with another big kick to the body. He punches the body as well, and Enz looks hurt. Enz against the cage, and Santos is unleashing a flurry. Enz tries to cover but drops after eating a few power hooks, and Santos is all over him. Referee Mark Smith watching close as Santos unloads punches on the floor, and he finally steps in.

Ildemar Alcantara (21-7 MMA, 4-2 UFC) vs. Richardson Moreira (7-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC)

Round 1 – Moreira with an early low kick. Alcantara patient from the center. Crowd instantly restless. Alcantara blocks a kick to the body. Alcantara short on a high kick. Tentative pace to start. Moreira again kicks the legs. Alcantara slips in a high kick but gets back to his feet. Moreira moves inside and tries an outside trip but can’t get it. Moreira finally unleashes a flurry of punches that bring a smile from Alcantara, who counters with a knee inside. Moreira stays tight, and they battle from the clinch. Moreira drops down and tries to pull Alcantara to the floor, but Alcantara counters and slips directly into mount. Moreira holds tight underneath and actually just muscles his way into a sweep. Less than a minute. Moreira punches a bit and looks for a late leglock. Not there before the bell, but MMAjunkie gives Moreira the round, 10-9.

Round 2 – Alcantara again takes the center. Moreira blocks a high kick. Alcantara kick to the leg. Still a very tentative pace, and the crowd boos the lack of sustained action. Alcantara holding the center as Moreira circles. Moreira rushes forward, but Alcantara slips away. Alcantara does sneak in a high kick, but Moreira walks through it. Moreira rushes in again and tries to end with a hook, but he misses. Neither man able to find any openings. Less than two minuted, and the crowd boos again. Moreira tries to duck for a leg, but he misses. Alcantara sneaks in another high kick, but Moreira is unfazed. Alcantara holding the center. Moreira rushing forward again, and this time he gets inside on a single-leg, but he still can’t get the takedown. Alcantara gets to his feet, and the round ends there. MMAjunkie gives it to Alcantara, 10-9.

Round 3 – Alcantara again in the center, and he kicks to the body, though it’s blocked. Moreira still seems to have power, but Alcantara’s speed and movement is giving him the edge on the feet. Moreira just misses on a huge left, but Alcantara slips it and returns with a knee to the body. Moreira tries to use a right hand to get inside, but he can’t latch on to the body. Moreira chasing Alcantara, but he can’t get any offense going. Alcantara continues to fire the high kick. Moreira finally gets into the clinch with three minutes left. Alcantara defends against the cage and looks to referee Marc Goddard to break the action. Moreira shifts to a takedown,a nd Alcantara grabs the fence. They hit the floor, and Goddard stops them to issue a warning. Could have taken a point but didn’t. They restart on the feet. Moreira tries again to bullrush, but Alcantara pops him and moves out of the way. With time winding down, Moreira is moving forward, but he just can’t land anything. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives the third to Alcantara, 10-9, giving him the fight 29-28.

Rafael Natal (19-6-1 MMA, 7-4-1 UFC) vs. Tom Watson (17-8 MMA, 2-4 UFC)

Round 1 – Natal rushes forward and misses on early low kick. He scores with a second. Brazilian fans cheering for Natal. Leg kicks treaded from both men. Natal comes back with two more chops to the thigh. Natal catches a Watson kick and tosses him to the floor. Watson wisely scrambles up and away before suffering too much damage. Natal with a big kick to the body. Watson asks for more. Watson kicks the legs. His torso is very red from the earlier shot. Natal moving well, and he continues to kick at the legs. Watson with a big right. Natal just crushing the lead leg. Watson with a nice jab. Natal with a three-punch combination that sends Watson to the fence. Watson again asks for more. They go at it against the cage before backing away. Watson with a clean blow, but Natal answers again and scores with a takedown. Less than a minute. Watson wants the neck, but it’s not there. He scrambles to his feet, but Natal with another takedown. Round ends there. MMAjunkie gives the first to Natal, 10-9.

Round 2 – Watson has a ball on the top of his right foot. Meanwhile, Natal is bouncing lively and moving well. Watson just short on a front kick to the face. Natal pumps out a jab. He’s very quick. He grabs another Watson kick and pushes him to the floor. Watson immediately starts to scramble and does get back to his feet. They resume in the center. Watson still firing kicks with that obviously injured foot. They trade punches in the center. Watson not backing down. Natal with an outside trip, but he can’t keep Watson down. Watson scores a sweep on the feet, but Natal quickly back up, as well. Good stuff from both guys. Two minutes left. They trade more on the feet. Natal pushes inside agains for a takedown. He wraps the body. First effort doesn’t get it, but second does get the action to the knees. Watson immediately back up, and we reset again. Natal just a step ahead. He gets another late takedown, and MMAjunkie gives Natal the round, 10-9.

Round 3 – Natal out quickly again and looking to strike. Watson there to return fire, but he’s just a little behind. Natal consistently the one starting the exchanges. Natal misses on a spinning strike. A second backfist just misses, as well. Watson walking forward, but Natal landing more frequently. Watson is going to need a finish. He’s definitely looking to press forward, but Natal is quick with sharp jabs and low kicks as he retreats. Two minutes remain. Natal scores with a right hand. A second comes in, as well. Watson with constant pressure, but Natal is just dialed in. Watson starting to bleed a bit from the nose, and he eats a vicious kick to the body. Natal pops him with a few more jabs and then drives in for a takedown. Watson works desperately to get to his feet. He’s running out of time. Natal elevates him to his shoulder and then dumps him to the floor. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Natal, 10-9, awarding him the fight 30-27.

John Lineker (25-7 MMA, 6-2 UFC) vs. Ian McCall (13-5-1 MMA, 2-3-1 UFC)

Round 1 – Lineker takes the center, and McCall looks to start his lateral movement. Lineker with an early kick to the legs. McCall pumping a jab but staying at distance. Leg kicks traded. McCall kicks the body and slips a big right on the counter. McCall the quicker fighter. He drops levels and drives in for the takedown. He gets it, and Lineker settles for half-guard. McCall trying to free his right leg. He throws a few short left hands. McCall in control. Lineker trying to find options, but there’s not much there. He’s just stuck. McCall briefly thinks about attacking the arm, but he can’t lock in the submission. Lineker shifts for a leglock. He gets in to position and isolates McCall’s left leg, but McCall rolls through it and stacks for safety. He breaks free at the bell, and MMAjunkie gives the first to McCall, 10-9.

Round 2 – Lineker gets to the center and motions that he wants a brawl. McCall gestures on the outside but knowns he doesn’t want that. McCall shoots inside on a takedown, and Lineker grabs a guillotine and falls to his back. It’s deep, but McCall rips his body into half-guard. Odd angle on the neck, but he gets free. Scary moment for McCall. He crawls up to his feet and avoids any bog shots on the exit. McCall high kick, and he complains of a low counter, but referee John McCarthy tells them to fight on. Lineker with a right to the body and a left o the chin. McCall smiles at the combo. McCall pushes in, and Lineker complains of a head clash. McCarthy checks them for cuts, and we fight on. Lineker now sitting down on his punches, and he’s got McCall’s timing Momentum has switched. Lineker looking to load up on his right hand. McCall drives in again on the takedown. Not there. McCall kicks the legs, but Lineker counters over the top. Lineker closing the distance. McCall trying to stick and move, but he eats a big left hand. Lineker again to the body and head. McCall desperate for the takedown, but he gives up his neck again. Guillotine for Lineker, and he presses down on top. McCall again survives, but he’s in trouble. MMAjunkie gives the second to Lineker, 10-9.

Round 3 – McCall still light on his feet, and he fires off a few kicks to start. Low kick draws a big Lineker counter that misses. Lineker just has the timing down right now. McCall needs to change things up. He’s still trying to get in and out. Nice kick to the legs for McCall. He blocks a few big right hands. Pace is steady. Lineker has the center. McCall misses on a takedown but scores a kick on the scrambling exit. Lineker cutting off the cage, and he scores with two big lefts. They meet in the pocket and trade bombs. McCall’s knees buckle. Lineker was a little staggered, as well, and can’t seem to get there, but he’s in control. He scores again, and McCall bleeding from the cheek. Lineker looks calm as he stalks. He’s throwing huge shots. McCall running out of time. Lineker seems to be rubbing his belly a bit, taunting those calling him fat for missing weight. McCall tries to scrap until the end, but he’s going to come up short. The two men embrace at the end. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Lineker, 10-9, giving him the fight 29-28.

Derek Brunson (13-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) vs. Ed Herman (22-11 MMA, 9-8 UFC)

Round 1 – Brunson with a left to the body. Front kick, and he scores with a left hand that buckles Herman’s knees. Brunson sees the opportunity and pounces. He rushes forward, and a second left sends Herman to the floor. More punches on the deck, and this is over. Brunson celebrates with a little shimmy. Quick win.

Sara McMann (8-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) vs. Miesha Tate (16-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC)

Round 1 – They come out firing punches to start. Both women trading, though McMann gets the best shots early. McMann looks extremely relaxed, and she lands a huge right hand. Tate hits the deck, and McMann rushes to get on top. Tate wisely ties things up and looks to slow it down. Tate looking for a potential triangle, but McMann pushes her legs down. McMann in top position. She’s working in an occasional shot, but Tate is trying to keep things tight. McMann advances past Tate’s right leg before moving all the way to side control. McMann on her side and briefly thinks about isolating the arm. Tate battles to keep it tight. Tate tries to turn to her knees, but McMann is heavy on top. McMann just grinding away from side control. Tate gets her legs high and wants an inverted triangle, but it’s not there. Bell sounds, and MMAjunkie gives the round to McMann, 10-9.

Round 2 – McMann has a high kick blocked. Tate looking for an opening, but McMann kicks her leg. Crowd behind Tate. They engage in the clinch. Both fire knees. McMann just looks incredibly relaxed. Tate walks into a right hand. Tate does work in a jab, and she scores with a counter left shortly after. Front kick to the body fro McMann. She looks much improved on the feet. Tate still looking to attack. McMann uses a big right hand to press into the clinch. Nothing there, so they back away. Tate finally decides to walk forward with no regard to the attack. That forces McMann to look for the takedown. Tate feels it and locks in a guillotine as she falls to the floor. She tries to roll to the top as she works on a choke. McMann in a bad spot, but she’s lasting through it. Tate tries to step over to mount at the bell. Hard to score, but MMAjunkie gives it to Tate on the late submission, 10-9.

Round 3 – Touch of gloves to start the third. Tate rushes forward, but McMann hits a trip. Tate immediately scrambles and reverses the position. Excellent work to get to the top. Tate grinding away from the top with short punches. She tries to step over the left arm, but it’s not there. Still, Tate gets to side control. Short elbows from the top. McMann trying to turn to her side and get up, but Tate stays heavy. Bigger elbows from the top. Time ticking away for McMann, who needs to get up. She tries to use her feet to create leverage, but Tate adjusts and stays on top. Tate gets into a crucifix and elbows away from the top. She is controlling this round from start to finish. McMann just stuck on her back. One minute left. Tate not getting a ton of damage, but she’s in firm control. She looks for the arm at the end but can’t get a firm grip. MMAjunkie gives the third to Tate, 10-9, awarding her the fight 29-28. This is going to be close.

Thiago Alves (21-9 MMA, 13-6 UFC) vs. Jordan Mein (29-10 MMA, 3-2 UFC)

Round 1 – Alves misses on an early low kick as Mein takes the center. Mein answers with his own low kick. Mein wants to use his range. He pumps a jab and avoids another low kick. Mein just misses on a right hand. He kicks the legs again. Mein setting the tone early. Alves firing sharp counters, but Mein staying at distance. Mein the better striker early. He just misses a big right. Alves struggling to find his range early. Mein’s length proving an issue. Two straight punches from Mein. He stuns Alves with a crisp shot but doesn’t overcommit on the attack. Mein misses a short elbow but scores with aa right hand over the top. Alves continues to move forward, looking to trade, but Mein getting the best of it early. Right hand stuns Alves. Mein wants the finish. He swarms with punches. Alves covers up against the cage. Final minute. Mein unloading and just misses another uppercut. Short right stuns Alves again. He’s in trouble. He makes it to the bell. Mein takes the first on the MMAjunkie card, 10-9.

Round 2 – Alves looking to push the pace early. He presses forward with strikes. Mein’s rolls in the cage and gets a bit of boos from the crowd. Alves keeps pressing, and he delivers a thunderous kick to the body. Mein falls to a knee. Alves rushes forward and knees the shoulder. It might have slipped into the face, but it didn’t seem to be illegal. Close, though. Doesn’t seem Mein was completely kneeling. Crazy turn of events. Alves unleashes punch after punch, and referee Herb Dean has to step in. Crazy comeback and brutal finish.

Tim Boetsch (18-8 MMA, 9-7 UFC) vs. Thales Leites (25-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC)

Round 1 – Boetsch out first with a jab and kick to the body that come up short. Leites presses inside but tastes the power a bit and backs away. Boetsch complains of an eye poke, and we get a brief stop, but we fight on. Leites again looks to trade and narrowly misses eating a bomb. He fires a flying knee and moves inside to the clinch, but there’s nothing there. They reset in the center. Leites with a right hand and a left hook. He’s playing with fire a bit, but he seems happy to do it right now. Leites kicks the leg. Boetsch tries to push inside and rifle uppercuts. Leites pressing forward and content to trade. Both are scoring, but neither landing flush. Leites finding success with a left hook when Boetsch pushes forward. Leites living dangerously, but he’s the one walking forward right now. One minute left. Leites nearly has a takedown on a bodylock, but Boetsch scrambles to stay upright. Leites scores again, but Boetsch counters and buckles his opponent’s legs. Leites ties things up to slow it down. He was in real trouble there. Bell sounds, and MMAjunkie gives the round to Boetsch, 10-9.

Round 2 – Leites kicks the legs to start. Boetsch checks a second kick. Boetsch throwing big uppercuts again, but Leites wants to trade. Leites hooks are good, but he is playing with fire again. Boetsch lands the overhand right, and Leites is hurt. He ties things up again before pulling away. He doesn’t seem totally recovered. Straight right for Boetsch. Leites now working to get inside. They move into the clinch. Leites misses a knee and right hand as he pulls away. Leites kicks the leg. Boetsch seems to be tiring a bit, but he lands a big left. Leites in real trouble. He’s hurt and falls to the ground as Boetsch swarms, but Leites intelligently gathers enough wits to score a takedown. Leites sets up the arm-triangle. It’s right, and Leites jumps to the side to get the finish. Boetsch somehow survives. Leites moves over to the other side and sets it up again. Impressive. He pulls away from the fence and chokes him again. This time Boetsch is stuck, and he goes to sleep. Great fight.

Al Iaquinta (11-3-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) vs. Joe Lauzon (24-10 MMA, 11-7 UFC)

Round 1 – Lauzon takes the center. Iaquinta looks for a takedown and then comes up to fire punches. Iaquinta fakes another takedown shortly after. Iaquinta moving well on the outside, and sneaks in an uppercut. Lauzon answers back with a few crisp punches. Iaquinta digs to the body, but Lauzon walks through it and looks to trade. Good pace to start. Both men have scored early. Lauzon with another right hand to the top of the head. Iaquinta throwing, but Lauzon covering well. Iaquinta kicks the legs then goes up top. He’s mixing things up very well. Kick to the body for Iaquinta, but Lauzon answers back with three crisp punches. Good stuff from both. Lauzon popping out his jab. Both guys having moments in a fun round. Lauzon holding the center. Iaquinta mixing in some low kicks. One minute left. Lauzon drives in with a knee and wants a guillotine, but Iaquinta turn tot the side to release pressure. Lauzon turns to his knees and gets to his feet. He looks again for the takedown. Iaquinta stays up. Great back and forth. Iaquinta wants a late takedown but can’t get it. Fantastic round. MMAjunkie leans slightly toward Lauzon, 10-9, but it was close.

Round 2 – The come together again immediately in the center, trading punches. Iaquinta staying bust, and he sneaks in a high kick, but Lauzon is flurrying and happy to trade. Both working combinations to all levels. Iaquinta with a kick to the body. Uppercut just misses. Iaquinta firing big hooks, but Lauzon still showing solid defense. Lauzon shoots in but can’t get it. Iaquinta throwing power shots, and he’s starting to touch the ears a bit. He’s also slipping in uppercuts. Lauzon is hurt. Big right hand for Iaquinta. Lauzon wobbles to the floor. He gets to his feet, but he’s hurt. Iaquinta teeing off, but Lauzon won’t go down. Too touch for his own good. Iaquinta unloading blow after blow. Lauzon wobbling all over the place, and referee Marc Goddard finally steps in. Lauzon was gutsy, but Iaquinta was too much.

Kelvin Gastelum (10-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) vs. Tyron Woodley (15-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC)

Round 1 – Woodley with an early high kick. Gastelum walking forward. Woodley fires a right hand. He’s moving well right now on the outside as Gastelum walks forward. Gastelum kicks the legs a bit. Woodley jabs to the body. Crowd a little restless, as Woodley seems to be waiting to counter for now. Gastelum moving forward, but he hasn’t landed anything flush. Woodley looks relaxed, and he blocks a high kick. Crowd really wants to see this open up. Woodley does rattle off a few punches, and Gastelum responds with a quickened pace. Gastelum throwing hard punches, but he’s missing for now. He kicks the leg. Woodley might just be trying to draw Gastelum out, but he needs to get busy. Crowd not liking this at all. Woodley does score with a right hand. Gastelum pushes forward with punches, but Woodley seems to be evading well. Round ends on the feet. MMAjunkie gives the first to Gastelum, 10-9.

Round 2 – Gastelum has a high kick blocked. Woodley with a low stance. Gastelum slips on a kick, but Woodley can’t get to him. Gastelum complains of an eye poke and gets no sympathy from the fans as he takes a break. Touch of gloves on the restart. Woodley picks it up with a right hand and kick to the body. Gastelum tries to counter but comes p short. Gastelum kicks the legs a bit. Woodley finally comes off the cage, but he’s letting Gastelum walk forward. Woodley scores with a right. A second right staggers Gastelum. Woodley coming alive. He goes to the body. Gastelum seems to be OK, but he was stunned for a bit. Wooldey chops the leg a bit. Gastelum still finding some success, but Woodley much better this round. Stiff right from Woodley. Less than two minutes. Gastelum shaking it off, and he still looks relatively fresh. Gastelum continues to walk forward, but he eats another big right hand. Round ends in the clinch. MMAjunkie gives it to Woodley, 10-9.

Round 3 – Gastelum again presses the action, but Woodley is there to meet him. Gastelum looking to keep the pace high, but Woodley countering well. Gastelum does land two big left hands. Gastelum bleeding from his left eye. Gastelum not quite as tired as Woodley might have hoped in the third. Woodley seems confident, but he’s so willing to go back to the cage.He does land a counter right. Gastelum answers with a jab. Woodley avoiding well, but Gastelum picking up points as the aggressor. Halfway through the final round. Woodley showboating a bit, and he lands a nice right hand. Uppercut for Woodley. Hook scores. Silva patient to start, circling on the outside as the two southpaws size each other up. Silva kicks the legs then fires two punches. Silva looks very relaxed. Diaz lays down on the ground. He stands up and backs up to the cage. Wow. Nick Diaz is back. Diaz gestures to Silva, wondering where the offense is. Silva throws out a few punches. They briefly clinch before Silva backs away. Silva just misses a big right hook. Diaz kicks the legs a few times. Silva now has his hands down. Diaz tags him a few times. Diaz has succeeded in turning this into a brawl. Silva kicks the legs. Silva circling on the outside. Diaz with his guard high and asking for offense. These two showmen are taunting each other. Diaz scores with a nice left. Silva with a leaping knee, and he wants the clinch. Diaz won’t let him have it. Silva now pumping his jab. He drives inside and scores with a big right. They trade kicks to the body. Silva has been tagged a bit, but he doesn’t seem to care at all. he backs up to the center. Round ends on the feet. What a wild round. MMAjunkie gives it to Silva, 10-9.

Round 2 – Diaz again rushes out. Silva backs away to circle on the outside. Diaz in the center, and Silva is moving around, looking for openings. Silva doesn’t want to overcommit. He’s moving well. Diaz stoic in the center. He’s holding his forearm out, parallel with the floor. Diaz kicks the thigh a few times, and Silva backs away. Silva pumps a few jabs and misses on a right. He kicks the leg. Diaz shoots inside, but Silva sprawls and backs away. Diaz faking strikes, looking for reactions. Silva drops his hands and avoids a few kicks. Diaz takes a moment to adjust his shorts, and then they start to trade in the pocket. Silva just misses a big driving elbow. Silva seems to be coasting early in the rounds and then looking to explode late. Diaz taunts him a bit before getting kicked hard in the body. Collar tie from Silva, and he takes a few Diaz punches. Both men with their hands down in the final seconds. Round ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie goes again to Silva, 10-9.

Round 3 – Now Silva seems to be starting a little faster, pumping the jab and kicking the thigh. Diaz circling on the outside, and Silva kicks the leg again. Silva holds the center. He laces in a big left hand. High kick from Silva. Diaz just stands there, asking for more. Diaz moving his hands franticly, offering the occasional taunt. Meanwhile, Silva seems to be dialing it in a bit. His lead right hook is landing. He fires a high knee and tries to get the clinch. Diaz pulls away. Silva rifling the jab, jumping in with high knees. Diaz bleeding a bit around his left eye. Diaz kicking the legs a bit, but his shots are trumped by Silva’s. Silva misses a spinning heel kick that draws cheers from the crowd. Silva really in control and putting on a clinic, but Diaz is showing his heart. Round ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie gives it to Silva, 10-9.

Round 4 – Diaz comes out firing kicks, and he nearly scores high. Silva doing the same with kicks to all levels. Silva circling again. Diaz holds the center, and he does land a few decent punches, but Silva seems to have zero fear of the strikes. Silva kicks to the body and then punches there, as well. Pace is pretty light. Silva seems to be waiting for Diaz to come in so he can counter. Silva definitely hold the power advantage. They move close, and Diaz rifles in a few elbows before puling away. Silva misses on a big front kick. He backs away and circles before kicking the legs. He tries to grab a Thai clinch, but Diaz wont allow it. Diaz flashes out a few high kicks before shuffling his feet in the final minute. Diaz trying to taunt, but Silva won’t over-engage. MMAjunkie gives it again to Silva, 10-9. It’s closer than score might seem, but Diaz needs a finish.

Round 5 – Diaz takes the center and starts begging for Silva to come to the center. He offers his chin for one shot, but Silva moves away. Diaz shuffling his feet, but Silva won’t take the bait. Two-punch combination for Silva. He needs to put an exclamation mark on this, as he didn’t do much in the fourth round. Diaz walks forward, and Silva nearly gets him in a clinch, but Diaz pulls free. Blood starts to run again from Diaz’s left eye. They trade a bit, and Silva’s check right is the punch that scores. Diaz kicks the leg, but he’s going to need something big. He drops his hands to bring Silva in. Silva obliges. Diaz trying to land a big counter off the fence. Silva misses ona flying knee but goes straight into a few punches before missing another spinning kick. Final minute. It’s been bizarre to say the least. Now Silva seems to want to trade. He scores with two solid punches. Diaz’s eye now really busted up. The fight ends on the feet. Silva scales the cage to talk to Jon Jones. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Silva, 10-9, awarding him the fight 50-45.
