UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is now set to defend her title for the fourth time against Alexis Davis, instead of welcoming Gina Carano back to the cage some time in the near-future.

There were rumors going around that the next fight for the champ would be a mega-fight between her and Carano, but those rumors were quickly put to bed as soon as the fighter turned movie star and those in charge couldn’t reach an agreement for Carano to make her highly anticipated return to MMA.

Davis (16-5, 3-0 UFC) blazed through Rosi Sexton, Liz Carmouche and Jessica Eye en route to her title shot. Although she wouldn’t finish any of her UFC fights within the time limit, Davis has still managed to play at a higher level than her peers.

Rousey (9-0, 3-0 UFC) is the reigning, defending champion in this situation and I’m not quite sure as to why everyone assumes she’s untouchable. Her next opponent has shown more skills standing up, and certainly has the submission knowledge to hang with the armbar assassin. Plus, she’s had twice as many fights as the champ.

The ladies are set to clash at UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida, which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 5.

And, the rest of the pay-per-view (PPV) fight card has already started to take shape:

Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida

Ronda Rousey vs Alexis Davis

Uriah Hall vs Thiago Santos

Dan Henderson vs Daniel Cormier

Chael Sonnen vs Wanderlei Silva
