QUEBEC CITY – Showcasing a well-rounded game, Chad Laprise became the first Canadian “Ultimate Fighter” winner with a split-decision win on Wednesday night.
Laprise (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) beat Olivier Aubin-Mercier (4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) to win the welterweight crown on “TUF: Nations.” After his win, he’d be joined as a Canadian “TUF” winner by middleweight Elias Theodorou.
Laprise used a solid standup game and takedown defense to outpoint fellow Canadian Aubin-Mercier, who was his teammate on the reality series.
