Alexander Gustafsson’s knee injury that took him out of a planned September encounter with Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title is not serious.

Gustafsson updated fans about his condition in a video message posted on Facebook recently. He has been replaced by Daniel Cormier for the UFC 178 main event fight.

“I got a knee injury. It’s not very serious,” he said. “But I need to take care of it. It’s a small issue that has been with me.

“It’s not a long recovery time, a few weeks. I’m disappointed, I really wanted to fight at (UFC) 178 but I can’t. I will watch it. It’s a great card.”

Gustafsson took Jones the distance last year, dropping a decision to “Bones.” Instead of being granted an immediate rematch, “The Mauler” fought – and defeated – Jimi Manuwa earlier this year. Jones, meanwhile, downed Glover Teixeira for his seventh successful title defense.

“Jones I see that you are happy, but if you get passed DC, your nightmare will be back and more motivated than ever,” he wrote in posting the video message, which you can hear below.
