I am afraid this might be it. Ever since he won the belt, he's been afflicted by the ForrestGriffin Belt syndrome. After reaching the summit, there is nothing to fight for anymore. To make things worse, he had a baby at the same time and now he wants to stay near home all the time - probably missing out on great training camps.

Hendo with the flu albeit.

Did he have the Flu??

Too lazy to look up a source, but yeah he had the flu, I believe that's why he was on an IV after the fight + the hospital visit.

He was probably on an IV because he just went through Hell.

in the kings mma video title "dream" its shoguns 2nd kings mma video. he talks about the jones fight and says he went into t not full hearted. he says he looked at the fight like he already achieved his dream. with the loss and hte move to kings mma he realized his dream was the wrong focus. Kings mma made him realize his dream shouldnt be to win a belt, it should be to win every fight. this is what me and the other post were talking about. Everyone close to shogun realizes what his problem is and its also very obvious. if you push shogun he still might be thte #1 205 on the planet, the problem is he's losing focus. training at his own gym he has no one to push him, he can stop whenever he wants, and hes also not working with top guys.

He hasn't looked great since machida 2 - i guess his knee recon or whatever. Both him and Hendo looked shit in their last 'war' - two old men ravaging each other

his heart wasnt in the jones fight, its like the similar other most likely sources of crocops decline... he felt he accomplished everything, and didnt train hard at all which he admits, he looked great in the forrest fight which was bc he had someone under his ass, but went back to brazil bc he wanted to be at home with the baby and trained by himself again. wand, cordiero, dida have all basically said, shogun is shoguns worst enemy at this point in one way or another. he needs to completely move himself to kings mma, if he did this wed see the shogun of old....notice reem and most other guys will move themselfs to the us or wherever there camp is. they know they cant go back and forth n be focused. hell even anderson and the nogs own gyms in the us. the reason he looked good in machida and chuck was bc he had dida under his ass, after shogun won the belt dida moved to train at kings mma where he said he BEGGED shogun to come but shogun declined bc of the family

agree.

this is what most fighters who are in the later years of their careers llok like.
they've been champions, they've made their money.
they will still fight, but they are not going to put in the training that they once did.

Dan Henderson ready for title shot after UFC 139
From Oddjack on Nov 22 2011

In case you missed UFC 139 last weekend, well, you missed one helluva’ show.

In what was one of the greatest fights ever seen in MMA, Dan Henderson edged out Mauricio Shogun Rua in UFC 139 to earn a shot at the UFC light heavyweight title.

Unbeknownst to fight fans, Dan Henderson, who had prepared himself for a five-round fight against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, caught a bug the week prior to UFC 139 that sapped his strength and left him so dehydrated that he needed IV fluids following a bout that’s been called one of the best in UFC history.

Yeah, Henderson is a solider. Although I saw Shogun winning the fight last weekend, I gotta’ give it to Henderson for the kind of performance he pulled.

On his way to a unanimous decision over Mauricio Shogun Rua in the headliner of this past Saturday’s event, Henderson also suffered a sprained thumb but managed to escape a trip afterward to the hospital with no more than a few Motrin. A small cut underneath his chin didn’t require stitches.

“He’d been ill throughout the week, so the five-round fight was pretty tough on his body,” Aaron Crecy, Henderson’s business partner, on Sunday said. “He was having trouble breathing because he was so dehydrated.”

Henderson noticeably slowed and at one point teetered unstably after taking punches in the championship rounds of the fight, which allowed Rua to surge back on the scorecards after falling behind in the first three. All three judges called the contest 48-47 in Henderson’s favor.

Crecy said the bug Henderson caught, possibly the flu or a chest cold, also had stricken several fighters on the Nov. 19 card. UFC president Dana White said he was under the weather in advance of the event and took to giving fighters fist bumps at the weigh-ins instead of hand shakes.

“Going into this fight, Dan felt like a five-round fight was to his benefit,” Crecy said. “He was in great shape. It was just unfortunate. And the other thing was that ‘Shogun’ was just tough, man.”

Crecy, who caught the bug himself, was unaware of whether a medical suspension was immediately issued to Henderson by the California State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the event, thought it’s all but certain the fighter will receive some sort of sanction.

Henderson and Rua were almost immediately shuttled to the hospital at the conclusion of the fight and took a picture together at the hospital. Henderson then made an appearance at an event afterparty before retiring to get some much-needed rest.

“I want a title shot next,” the former PRIDE and Strikeforce champion tweeted Saturday night.

Next up for the UFC is a fight for the very title that Dan Henderson wants. It’s UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defending his title against Lyoto Machida.

probably not bro
Sigbet: Hunt (me) vs JDS (jojo)
Account bet: Anderson (Me) vs Weidman (biscuits69)
Now that we're gettin somewhere, you know we got to give back. For the youth is the future no doubt that's right and exact. Squeeze the juice out of all the suckers with power. And pour some back out, so as to water the flowers.

The reason he gassed is because he tried to finish the fight on multiple occasions, unfortunately for him shogun is a soldier and managed to hang in htere with him. But those guys went hard, if anything it shows how amazing their cardio actually is. I'm gonna get torn apart for saying that, I know, but they weren't exactly fighting a slow and steady fight, it was a fucking bloodbath. I'm sure if they paced themselves they would have been fine. Shogun DID look HORRIBLE against jones though. wow.

He was rocked seconds into the Jones fight and never recovered but please tell me what your theory is on the Jones fight.

I think that was shogun's excuse to get his ass kicked brutally the entire fight. He barely looked rocked after that flying knee, but he did look GASSED and discouraged. I have seen fights where guys get rocked wayyyyy worse then shogun did in that fight and come back to win e.g. Hendo v. Shields, Ellenberger v. Condit, Kongo v. Barry, Edgar v. Maynard TWICE). I really don't buy shoguns excuse. He is an amazing fighter and certainly one of my favorites, but I think he was jsut discouraged after getting outdone in every aspect of his game. Imagine being that good and then realizing someone is THAT much better then you. Gotta be discouraging.

His cardio is like Penn's, they say it's great, but I'll believe it when I see it.
So... Since Machida is all, "I drink my own Urine for vitamins!" is it okay for my to be like, "I eat my own shit for nutrients!!"????

Your an idiot, he's saying that people are busy judging Shogun's cardio after a 25 min toe to toe battle when most people haven't even trained before and don't understand how unbelievably tiring it is. Instead of judging others, why don't you get your fat ass to a gym and start sparring, you probably won't last more then 3 mins.

yes! this is exactly what i have been saying since he came back from his 3rd knee surgery! i dont think he kicks anymore cuz he just cant. it sucks tho seeing as how hes a great fighter but those knee surgeries have ruined his carreer
