Dude doesn't even matter. He's a serious black belt in judo. His trips and throws are sick. Standing subs? Yes please! Since the Gil loss he's been working wrestling and striking. He's shown some solid striking from the top in his last few fights too. I think it's called evolving, but he isn't a UFC LW which means he's utter shit and a complete can!

Seriously, when did Gray get so great? He has a split win over Huerta...Not super impressive...Sure he had a good style vs Frankie, he's an upper mid LW at best.... Sure he could KO Aoki, but Gray doesn't have stellar jiu jitsu...he's good at not giving a ton of space, but I haven't seen an impressive escape from him. He's submitable imo. Guillard? Really? The dude doesn't have good enough TDD and his bjj is a fucking joke! Easy first round sub!

I'm not saying he's a walk in champ in the UFC. He is an evolving fighter with world class judo and bjj. He's working on his wrestling, muay thai, and ground and pound. He's a tall and lanky fighter for the weight class. I think he's even working some SnC to help fill out his frame. I don't understand why people write him off, but 1 dimiensional strikers are given much more good will...

Say what you want, Jose Aldo Jr is P4P number 1.

When Aoki has broken someone's arm in a standing position, you know he doesn't actually have to get you down.

But he does have to get a hold of you. And that's what Gil was able to stop.

Aoki should roid and just do S&C for a year straight. Can you imagine? Snapping limbs left and right.

Aoki in Japan under their rules and in a ring is the number 4 lightweight right now. Unfortunately for him though he's cursed with what every other Japanese fighter trying to make it here in the states is cursed with. They just can't adapt their styles to American MMA and ultimately won't put on good performances against top American fighters. Melendez is a prime example and Alvarez will prove that this Friday in my hometown

I like Aoki. I've always dug his style and his badassness as well as most of the Japanese fighters. Those cats are samurais but that still doesn't change the fact that Okami may be the only Japanese fighter in American MMA who's actually significant. Everybody else just can't adapt to the cage, the style, the rules or the refereeing to be successful over here.

I hate aoki, only thing real good about aoki is his ground game. He has terrible stand up so if he can’t get it to the ground he is fucked. You can make an argument for top 10 but not top 5

edit: damn i said basically what shogun said... so i agree with shogun lol

I think there are at least 5 opponents in the UFC that can beat him

+ 2.

Aoki deserves top 10, but not top 5. To be top 5, should have a win against a top 5 guy, or at least someone ranked top 6-7.

But as L2 might say, most of his wins are lmao.

Those usually cited as his top 10 wins, are marginal cases.

Kawajiri is a classic example. Most of his wins are also lmao, and when he fights top 10-20 ranked fighters... he loses (Alvarez, Aoki, Gil, Gomi, for example).

Same with Uno. By the time he fought Aoki, he had lost to (then) non-ranked fighters Cavalcante and Amado, and, after losing to Aoki, went on to lose 4 of his next 6 fights; most of them to unknowns / cans.

Eddie Alvarez is his only truly solid top 10. Is that enough for top 5? No.
