i'm not saying that there aren't. We had about 3 years ago a competition between, TKD and boxing and kyokushin vs. boxing in my country. the tkd lost all their fights in a shameful manner. No guard and they ALWAYS tried to use fancy kicks ! They only work against other TKD because none has a GUARD ! And one guy pissed off the ref and got disqualified cause every time the fight got started he would just try a kick combo and end up falling !!!!Talk about frustration...the boxer wanted to kill him

I am a kyokushin fighter and i can tell u i barely have to do or learn kata's at all. We train full contact and no gear and spar and use pads almost every session, it truly depends on the style of karate but most kyokushin is based on full contact and not kata's that seem like a dance.

rock on bro . . . who never trained and spared/fought kyokushin will never know . . .

XD thank u for the support :) glad too see there are some mma fans who do realise its all about the fighter not the art and the way u adapt it.

I support kyokushin wholeheartedly, shotokan, and shodokan as well.
I actually chose to drop out of a McDojo when I was a kid, because even then I could tell what crap it was - but serious karate training holds my respect.

TKD.......well, it's better than a McDojo, but it ranks very low on my list of strong MMA bases. You can develop flexibility and kicks there, I guess.

I've never taken TKD but i;ve been think about it. So i'm curious as to why so many people don't like it. To me it seems that its basically the same as box but using feet not hands.

I've cross trained in many styles and if you aren't cross training then don't do tkd unless it's just for tkd tournaments that you are training. As far as tkd....most schools these days that I see focus on kids since there's money in it. But if you do happen to get lucky and find a coach that has solid fight experience and high level training then yes. I eventually had to leave as I was cross training openly and my master wouldn't allow it in the dojang. It was very traditional but I needed to move on. I have several suggestions for different areas of study depending on what your reason for training is and your background...if you want them anyways. TKD is only a tool in my eyes and only useful for those that can take it's strengths and realize it's weaknesses....there is no one stop shop.

I'm not going to put up videos of a can vs. a TKD or a TKD can vs. anyone. This vid is champions level. Mind you that this is kyokushin...no punches to the head, no muay thai clinch, no takedowns (although the TKD guys fall down straight after each of their weird angle kicks...), no submissions, no GnP....and so on...

And now I would like to show you a TKD in the cage (the first one I've seen). Enjoy

Oh i just remembered TKD MMA fighter in the UFC, Samy Schiavo.

Except in boxing they keep their hands up to protect their heads....

Boxing is WAY FUCKING GREATER than TKD....

One is TKD is all about distance and kicks...what happens when a boxer gets inside and starts throwing combinations.

I train at a TKD gym (I train Muay thai...they have one muay thai coach and like 3 TKD coaches), I see guys with 10+ years of TKD and and they bounce around with their hands down throwing kicks which really only work from the outside. You step inside throw a upper cut, hook combo they are going to sleep.

TKD is one of my least favorite martial arts....but it is good to for flexibility, so I would have a kid learn it first...before moving on to something else.

Oh i have no idea, i thought remembered the announcers talking about him having a TKD background in the last UFC fight and some of his kicks looked very TKD.

those low kicks are TKD? I doubt he learned them from TKD ... :) Come on guys ... TKD ... is for kids and girls. No offense to anyone in love with this art but ... try doing something else - you may like it more ... or not if you are a soft TKD practitioner ...

got to agree with official account, sorry gigaca1 ur still my boy but

zelg galezic is a three time champ in TKD and soon to be dream middle weight champion

david louiseau anyone? spinning back kick to charles mccarthy?

yoshihiro akiyama used TKD kicks his spinning back kick win over nagata is a testament to that

Dida also grew up with tkd and has said it helps him with his kicks.

Bernard Ackah is a k-1 heros fighter who also was an avid practitioner of TKD even while fighting in mma and used it effectivly in several of his knock out wins.

Any and all martial arts can and will work in mma and someone will be able to use them, no martial art has been around for thousands of years because they dont work. No matter what martial art u will see it used in mma, i find it retarded that even after they do see it used they say it doesn't work. Thats just ignorance. Not saying u guys are pain dog and gigaca1 i love u guys :)
