Yeah, it looked like a rant post. Which is cool. But hey....take Mikal's work, copy and paste, and delete your original, and then call us all idiots for bitching about your perfectly formed paragraphs.

I'm just kidding - but I find it funny that you took issue with the Wanderlai Silva observation - and not the Jon Jones one... it's all in good fun.

Meh idk just seems ALOT of fighters lie to themselves & to the fans or even beleive their own lies so to speak that you could generalize more as their opinions. I think one reason is just that mind set most have of never saying die attitude where they can't act like they will do or did anything but win. For example they claim they never lost a close decision when they did or when they win a decision where it was clear they didn't win & the judges gave it to the wrong guy they'll never admit they should have lost.

Just once I'd like to see a guy that goes out there & tells it like it is says shit like good luck may the best man win, no I don't think I felt I won that decision, yes it was close but the judges got it right I felt I lost, yes he had me rocked/hurt/out, the ref should have stopped it but he didn't so he wasn't able to finish me so it went to a decision or I was able to come back to win it.

You just never seem to hear guys say these things & be truthful about shit.

BTW I do think Mir is no doubt a better MMA then Carwin just Carwin has a certain set of tools better to deal with Mir in a fight even though Mir overall is a more skilled well rounded MMA fighter but that doesn't always mean you will win in a fight just cuz your better overall.

Also no doubt paragraphs are your friend plz use em then ppl will read your post & take it seriously. Plus don't be some Nazi about em not using em do like the one person did help em out by reposting it with spaces if it's worth the read. I'll admit though if no1 reposted it I wasn't gonna waste my time reading it lolz.

I actually agree with what u said but the Mir thing I disagree ... The only aspects that Shane is better then Mir is wrestling and punching power( if you consider that a skill)...... Mir has better technical boxing, kick boxing, muay thai and jiu jitsu. That and mir has huge brain farts and is way to comfortable in dangerous positions... Its one thing to keep ur composure and use strategy its another to do nothing and let the dude wail on you and get KO'd and thats mir does... lol

Yep. Vera after losing to Bones said "I still don't believe the hype in that guy", and Varner after Bendo said "I came to fight, he came to grapple."

There's always going to be guys like this, and there's people like this in real life too. Some people just can't handle being wrong or losing or whatever, so they'll just bullshit or make excuses so that even if they lose, they'll still feel like they won.

Also, paragraphs, bro.

Spiderman wrote:I just had a general question for linkers about fighters who I believe lie to themselves about certain things. Now I know every athlete should have complete and utter confidence in their abilities but seeing the news article entitled "Frankie Edgar believes the lightweight belt is still his" or something to that effect made me think of a couple of other examples. Firstly, if you believe that Frankie Edgar beat BJ Penn in their first fight in Abu Dhabi, then there is absolutely no way you can say that Bendo did not beat Edgar in their last fight. Bendo's defeat of Edgar was far more one-sided and convincing than Edgar's first fight against Penn to win the lightweight title. Now this made me think of two other examples of this school of thought... Bisping saying his only loss in the UFC is to Dan Henderson. Now, if you go back and look at his only loss at lhw to Rashad, you can actually make the case that Bisping won that fight. BUT HOW IN THE HELL DID HE BEAT WANDY WHEN HE WAS LYING ON THE GROUND UNCONSCIOUS AT THE END OF THE THE THIRD ROUND????? If that flurry came at any other point in the fight (or in the street for that matter) Bisping could have been dead. That fight was clearly one round to one, and then Bisping got knocked around as the fight was being FINISHED which is what every fighter should aim to do. God I hate that guy.... The other example of this is when Frank Mir said that he believed he was a better mixed martial artist than Shane Carwin the day after losing to him in a MIXED MARTIAL ARTS competition... These examples lead me to ask one question: After watching their own fights, do these fighters really believe their own bullshit, or are they saying these things for promotion and because they think they can convince the powers that be to give them rematches or title fights? Once again, I will reiterate that any professional of any job should think that he is the best at what he does. Each day I sit at my workstation, I tell myself that I am the best options trader to ever live. However, AFTER A LOSING TRADE, I go back and analyze my mistake and say that ok, I was not the best I could be that day, and the stock market beat the shit out of me. PERIOD. This, I believe is what makes me the best I can be, and I believe is the difference between someone who has the belt for a short period of time, and someone who keeps the belt. I don't believe that any of these three fighters will every be champion of anything again (Bisping especially cause he even believes that his knee to a grounded Jorge was not intentional... :Holy:  :Holy: ) because they are not truthful with themselves... sorry for the rant, but any opinions?????

This. It is literally a common trait amongst humans, especially males. You ever have that friend who could never be wrong? And when he was wrong he would avoid admitting to being wrong by bullshitting and distracting from the actual point so much that he some how skews it into making him feel like he was right all along? Yeah that's the type of guys you mostly deal with in MMA.

A pretty obvious one is Chael Sonnen claiming to be the champ after Silva made him cry "uncle".

I don't want to mention any specific names, but fighters who test positive for banned substances and then lie and make up some bull shit excuse or blame someone else.

Danny Castillo who didn't understand why the crowd was booing his boring ass.
