Weidman/Munoz Wrestling - who's got it?

Postby MrBojan9les » Mon Jul 02, 2012 9:59 pm

So, was just thinking about this fight.. I knew Munoz had really good wrestling credentials, and I know Weidman was a wrestler, that's it. So..decided to look..

Weidman was a two time all american, and got 6th, then 3rd at the D-1 championships.

Munoz got 3rd, and then won the title (D-1). Also a two time all american.

Both were at the same weight.. (197), but Munoz finished his college career in 01, Weidman in 07. I don't follow wrestling all that closely, but assume the same applies to that sport as any other.. I'd bet the guys now are better overall than they were 5 years ago. Competition breeds this..

My opinion... I think the wrestling will be pretty even, and I think it'll be a stand up fight which is always good when it's two wrestlers... Not necessarily good "technically"..but good as far as entertainment and bringing both guys out of their comfort zones instead of just being able to implement their will.. I know Munoz hits hard and has gained some confidence in his striking..Weidman seems like a beast, but I'm sure Munoz has the advantage. Clinch? I dunno, but hope there's not too much of it..

You can like my poll, not like it, or just not like polls in general. I honestly don't care..feel free to share if it makes you feel better. Just kinda tired of silva/sonnen bs and trt at the moment..and I searched a little and didn't see a recent topic on this.. Haven't been all that interested in this fight, but one of these guys will likely get a title shot after one more win..munoz possibly immediate..Weidman maybe 2.

And just so my thread isn't complete dogshit, here's a highlight of each. You get to see some awesome working out and fighting!

In all honesty though...neither beats Anderson..and both are doubtful against Chael (if they happen to fight him before getting their title shot). I don't think either are known for their triangles..

Ehhh, idk. Munoz is definitely more explosive but he does get sloppy at times. Weidman is a lot more patient, however he will go for the submission if its open.

I see Munoz winning a decision, mainly due to the fact that he has the better stand up, cardio, and his ground pound scores points in the eyes of the judges while working on positioning doesn't.

Yeah, I don't disagree... Munoz has a little more experience, and I don't see anywhere that Weidman is much better...other than maybe subs like you said.. I hope one of them goes night night though....and I think it's very possible.. Both hit pretty hard and could definitely end up with a finish after a clean shot to stun the other.

Can't believe these two have a headliner fight. Get ready for another "Maia vs Miller" type of fight. This fight in no way will be "super exciting" or anything close. This is the same guy fighting himself. Both fighters are very talented in wrestling, but in no way have a killer instinct. I really don't care who wins, I just wish someone gets KTFO (wont happen)
HW:JDS, Big Nog, Fedor
LHW: Shogun, Machida, Liddell

Munoz is not taking down weidman unless weidman gasses, this will be a sloppy slugfest. if people are that confident in munoz i suggest putting some money down since he is a small underdog.

LHW - Gustafson, Jimi Manuwa
MW - Belcher, Sonnen, Filthy Tom Lawlor, Hector Lombard, Paul Harris
WW - Nick Diaz

Hmm. That seems odd that Munoz is the dog in this... I'd expect him to be more of a favorite than what he should be because he's been around longer and had bigger fights, and has been in "the mix" for a while now..

well he is only a very slight dog, on bookmaker weidman is -130 and munoz is even money.

but yea munoz he has been "in the mix" for a while, but i mean his best win was against Maia, who weidman just beat (on short notice no less). if the fight stays standing it will be an extremely sloppy fight that will be a real toss up, since neither has good standup. but IMO weidman takes munoz down and subs him.
