Are MMA / UFC fans ungreatful / spoiled?

Postby warriorxv » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:41 pm

This is not a personal attack towards newer fans, who consider themselves as "ufc fans" or what die hard fans consider "just bleed fans", but more of a simple question for the variety of the people out there. i don't know why but a LOT of people have been bitching about UFC cards lately and with 147 coming up, there have been a lot of posts and threads saying how this card is not worth it or how it's lacking or disappointing.

i personally think ufc 147 has the potential to be amazing, sure it might not have the biggest effect on the title holders or the "food chain" but at the same time when i look at fights, i'm not judging based on "hey, i only liked this fight if fighter A can take out gsp / jds / silva", if two fighters go in there and put on a show, i enjoy it.

people are judging this card for what reasons? lack of knowledge of who the fighters on the card are except for a few? we are now saying cards that have wandy, franklin, werdum, russow, and a card stacked of Brazilians is not worth it? i don't know about you guys but i have always considered Brazilians and Japanese fighters to be some of the most exciting fighters out there.

what do you guys think? i have seen multiple times even people bitch about FREE cards.

I understand that these fights can be amazing regardless of star power and name power. However with all the late switches in comparison to what the card was supposed to be i could understand why people could complain. It's not unreasonable to understand where people are coming from, especially those who do pay for the events. But this time this card just doesn't seem to justify full price, which is why the UFC is even offering refunds. I'm sure the fights will be amazing and i'll love watching it here on Linker. But both sides (for/against) have legit reasoning.

I would say those new to the sport are moreso than the old school fans that have watched big names come and go from the sport.

I understand both sides of the argument, and although I won't be purchasing this card, I will still watch all the fights.

Reality is - the UFC is putting the TUF finales on PPV.

I'd say no they aren't when it comes to a card like UFC 147 being on PPV when it's the type of card that should be on FOX/FX/FUEL instead espeacially since it's just a TuF Finale event.

We're all getting spoiled some now with the free cards on FOX/FX/FUEL but the PPV cards are getting worse to where UFC are spreading them to thin leaving ppl opting to pick & choose the ones they will pay for that used to get every PPV.

I like to watch fights to see how old n new fighters adapt to ever changi
g world that is Mma. I like to see both aggressiveness n amazing comebacks.
What I do notice is more ppl want "Their guy" to win so badly, the invented scenarios n exscuses are simply awful! Not everyone can be champ, n not every champ finishes a fight, but that dont stop the whiners n complainers lol

Give the fighters and the Ufc a break, they bust their asses to entertain us all who are interested :)
The taste of defeat is not all Burritoking left in my mouth... why oh why did I bet against him...

Which is pretty lol-worthy.

Maybe he won't? Maybe he gets KOd? But maybe he doesn't. Maybe we are treated to a classic Wand performance, which will be all the more sweet because we fucking BELIEVED in this hero of our generation.

i can see where arguments are being made for the fact that what the UFC charges for a card is high, for the lack of name and star power but then you also have to consider other points for the arguments sake.

half the people who complain about costs, either go to a bar, friends house or illegally stream it, and then bitch about the cost when they don't even pay for it. i know people who watch almost any MMA event and still pay for most of them, not always but they still do, just for the sport and not the names.

the same can go for any sport, people who really love soccer or racing pay good money even if they know that the game might be "boring" or may lack something that bigger named teams wouldn't.

I think most fans are spoiled, but at the same time im not gonna get on someone for complaining about 147. However the UFC cant change it a free event due to fighter contracts, and agreements with the venue and ppv outlets but it'd be nice if they could figure something out. I saw in another someone mentioned if you buy this one you should get 149 free cuz its looking pretty lackluster as well, i think that'd be cool but is probably impossible to pull off.

all fans are ungratefull. so what if 147 doesn't have star power. you get a chance to experience the future stars of the ufc. I feel like old fans have their noses in the air. all you guys saying you miss pride are the same guys who complained about there not being enough fights. Remember when we only got 1 ppv every few months? the over saturation we are currently seeing won't last forever. what will you say then?

The free cards have been better than the PPV's lately anyways. with the exception of 146. mir getting hammer fisted was worth the $45 in itself.
