I think its a bad choice but then again what options does he really have...

After seeing his lack of cardio in his last fight then imagining GSP's riddum all over him I kinda feel sorry for Maia

No chance of beating GSP, but few others I'd like to see him fight. Honestly though Condit or Hardy, or Alves vs Maia would be some interesting matchups

this is a great move... IMO he could be a beast in WW
he will enjoy good reach and will not be bullied like he was in MW
the only question that remains is how he will handle the cut

just having a quick think, but can anyone tell me of late someone who has been doing well then dropped a weight class or dropped a weight class and started a streak?

BJ Penn, Vitor Belfort, Kenny Florian, Michael Bisping...

Thanks but i was thinking of more recent ones... Bisping has been a MW for a yonk now and belfort has gone what 2-1 at mw if memory serves corrrect franklin was catch weight

reason i said recent (prob my memory) but both joe daddy and griffin dropped to FW and almost immediately got the boot, akiyama could be going the same way... cant recall too many doing really well

This division is filled with wrestlers who i could see him submitting. I think he would have trouble with Fitch because Fitch has good wrestling and really good submission defence.
Gustafsson will dethrone Jon Jones

Couldn't find it in english but it states he's moving down to WW to rebuild his career.

I used google translate and translated it for you

The loss to Chris Weidman at the end of January weighed much to Demian Maia, who now will try a new beginning in the UFC. The blog was found that the fighter Paulo will change its category at the event, leaving the average (up to 84 kg) and down to the welterweight (up to 77 kg).

Soon after the battle, when the Brazilian had a performance far below expectations, the blog had already raised this possibility, which ended up materializing.

On Monday, I spoke with Demian during the launch event of the new UFC game in Sao Paulo. He was still clearly upset by the defeat, but already thinking ahead. When questioned about the chance he would go to the middle-middle, put a smile on his face, stammered, and tried to mislead.

"I have some things in my head but it's a secret. I know how I go again, just can not talk now. A fresh start is always difficult. It was a struggle that had followed the strategy could have won, but it will be difficult now, "said the fighter.

Seeing that he was on the fence in response, went after members of his academy, the state capital, to talk to your staff. I confirmed that these people will actually fall Demian category, but preferred not to identify the decision is not yet official, it has not yet been communicated to the direction of the Ultimate.

One of the reasons that weighed in the decision of the fighter was the fact that the loss to Weidman have been just the first fight of his current contract with the UFC, leaving three more. Thus, it is time to start this new weight, and even glimpse a title fight.

"We are athletes in an event that we fought three times a year, sometimes two, at most four. Thus, each victory or defeat mean much. It's not like a tennis player who plays every week. After losing, wanted to fight next week to recover, but it does not. You have to swallow, digest, and come back, "lamented the Paulista.

Among the middleweights in the UFC, the black belt jiu-jitsu had 13 fights, with nine wins and four losses. After a devastating start to the tournament, came up to fight for the title of the category, but lost to Anderson Silva in 2010.

Read the auto translation first and THEN make the argument that it can properly translate. Because that is not the case. Its a shitty translation. All translation software still suck. Some more than others. They are only usefull to understand what the original text's theme is and that only works on very simple and easy texts.

Maia's main reason for dropping down could be the fact that he doesn't want to try and grapple guys that way bigger than him. Maia was a fairly undersized MW (Looked to have some fat that he trim off) and so at WW I think his grappling and wrestling will come a lot easier. However, Kim is a bad match up for him. Stun Gun has some of the best control in the game mixed with a tactical stand up game and devastating elbows.

Not a bad move. He definitely wasn't a big MW, but against Kim?? Ehhhhhh iunno. Imo, his best chance is against Kim in the 3rd when Kim tends to fade out and gas a little, other than that I think Kim's striking, power, and takedown defense is enough to outpunch and outstrike Maia to a decision.
So... Since Machida is all, "I drink my own Urine for vitamins!" is it okay for my to be like, "I eat my own shit for nutrients!!"????
