Most refs explain in the pre fight meeting if you scream in pain that they consider it a verbal submission. Happens all the time in amateur. Didn't think it counted in pros though, you don't see it much.

Haha, yeah I watched the TUF Finale with a mate. He doesn't really know much about MMA, and I spent a lot of time while explaining rules ripping into Kim Winslow. She makes Mazzagatti look competant.

And verbal submission in the form of screaming or groaning counts, Rogan mentioned it a few months back when a controversial submission call was made. However that wasn't the case with Albert vs Perez, Albert didn't scream. It's kinda shitty anyway to have that rule, it's instinctive to scream out in pain, sometimes just even a reaction of surprise.

That's true, that's why I mentioned the reaction of surprise. The sub might not even hurt that bad, but if someone gets locked in a move that they haven't drilled before, they might exclaim "Oh!" or "Ah!" and that could be considered a verbal tap.
