He wouldn't lose to a guy like Guida (most likely) but he'd lose pretty convincingly to guys like Maynard, Benson, Nate (I don't care that they're teammates), and Miller IMO - also likely to lose to guys like Pettis and Cerrone.

I could certainly be wrong, but there's no reason to assume anything else after his last few fights.

Agreed. Even if I'm wrong and he beats Guida in the rematch, there are still other fighters at the top who I feel have all the tools to either easily outclass or finish Gilbert. Most likely outclass.

Melendez won 3 out of 5 rounds.Thompson finished strong in the last 2 rounds, but it was still competitive.
Gil got boo'z from the crowd cuz the fight was in San Jose.AKA fighters get alot of support up there.
I want to see Melendez fight Alvarez!!

If Melendez won more than half of round 1, I'm pretty sure It's not a 10-10.

It was a great and competitive fight but seeing as how Gil won the first 3 rounds there is no other way it can be scored. The last 2 rounds were obviously Thompson's but they weren't nearly dominant, and certainly not dominant enough to justify a 10-8 for Thompson which would have only made it a draw. The first round was the most even but with Gil having the take down and pressing the action making Josh move back the entire time it has to go the Gil.

All in all a good fight but the judges scored it correctly. It would have been a travesty to give it to Josh.

yea i think based on the scoring system melendez definitely won, it just was a perfect recipe to get booed in the stadium, which helps spread the "BS decision" sentiment. guy wins the first three closely contested rounds but loses the last two, the most definitive rounds were the final two that went to the loser, guy that won had a busted up face, guy that lost came closer to finishing the fight, guy that lost was the hometown fighter. it was like a perfect storm to get melendez booed. but i think he won the first 3 rounds 10-9 and lost the last two 10-9, giving him a clear cut 48-47 win.

now on to the next lose-lose fight for melendez!!

Why not? Gilbert's best win was against Guida more tahn five years ago.. alot of people who had Gilbert highly rank had Aoki highly rank and some even Kawajri. i have no reason to follow what a few select linkers who think they know it all but end up looking like ignoramuses after Barnett/Cormier fights or Alavrez/Aoki 2 fights. Anyone still have Aoki in their top 10?

To be fair 6 and 7 are close to 8 and 9 so we kind of agree, i was just trying to be funny, and failing I guess.

Hipster judging? Yes, one point off from 2 official scores is hipster judging. On top of the bad logic, we get into a whole weird area with the hipster aspect. Do hipsters even watch MMA? How would they judge? Between Melendez and Thompson, who has more hipster cred? Your post means nothing unless you can answer all three questions.

^^^

1) Why can't hipsters watch MMA? MMA is still not a mainstream sport, and one could easily adopt the attitude "I watched MMA before it was mainstream"... making them a hipster.

2) Hipsters would judge quite like you did... They see everyone else's scores and then adjust theirs to be slightly different based on some ambiguous premise (10-10 round) which is pretty damn rare in real-situation judging.

3) Melendez would definitely have more hipster cred at this point because a) he fought in PRIDE b) he has a win over another hipster favourite, Crusher, c) he has a win streak dating back 3 years d) he's associated with the Diaz bros, another MMA hipster sub-culture
