Belcher is fucking good. Tbh this fight was between two guys that were 6-1 in their last 7 with both of their losses having some sort of * with them. Belcher's being that he won that fight period. (idk if it was fixing by vegas or the ufc wanting Akiyama to come over and be a contender right away but someone fixed that shit Akiyama's face looked like he took a fast ball to it.) With Stump's it was him getting tagged while complaining to the ref. Now Stump was sitting right around the 7-8 mark on most ppl's Top 10 mw rankings. Alan looked GREAT against Stump, his biggest problem is since his eye problem and what not we have seen the coming of Chris Weildman and Munoz making a name for himself. Not to mention bisping has made a name for himself.
However lucky for him those two guys are gonna face off so one of them will "cancel the other out". Another good thing for him is that Hendo's next fight is going to be at LHW and tbh I think Dana plans to keep him up there just because there are more "interesting" fights for him at 205 as opposed to 185. So the only people he has to "worry" about now are the winners of the bisping vs Botsech fight, the winner of Weidman vs Munoz and in my mind that's it... I know some ppl are going to say Vitor but let me ask you one question who is Vitor's biggest victory at MW in the UFC? or period?
I just rewatched the Palahares fight... I listened to Rogan say this is TERRIBLE for Belcher about 6 times then say how he needed to get up. This kid goes in and beats the man at his own game. He rolls with the best ground guy in the division and dominates him at his own game. So with that being said why shouldn't he get the next shot after Chael?
BIGGEST WINS AT MW
Vitor has none vs n e one that is still in the division
Bisping is vs Mayhem who was off a year layoff (looked good vs Sonnen)
Weidman has 0 over n e one still in the divsion
Munoz is vs Leben
So the guy should be on a 7 fight win streak and just dominated a guy that was in the top 7
A makeshift list of the top 8 would be
1. SIlva (champ)
2. Sonnen (n1c)
3. Hendo (not in division)
4/5/6. Vitor/Bisping/Munoz
7. Palahares
8/9/10/11. Weidman/Stann/botesch/okami
Feel free to insert Lombard where ever you would like due to his recent addition to the UFC.
To be 100% when you think about it 4/5/6 kind of just got there off hype, bisping just because he looked good against Chael but other than that... the guy got beat pretty badly by Wandy. Vitor hasn't beat anyone we just put him up there. Bottomline the only guy in my eyes that should be ahead of Belcher on the title shot list would be Hendo if he wanted to take his shot at MW instead of LHW. IDK if I was Belcher and the UFC wanted me to get 1 more fight in. The funny thing is after Vitor beat the shell of himself that Wandy has become he is going to be screaming for a title shot. And why? because he beat someone that we all knew he was going to beat that isn't in the top 10? Because if that's the case and I am Belcher I would just call out Leben, beat him... look at Vitor and say okay you still have 0 wins over guys in the top 10 and I just beat the guy who stopped Wandy 2 fights ago.
I just have a sick feeling that Belcher being "IN THE MIX" isn't going to be enough. With the addition of Lombard if he goes out and beats Stann he is going to get a shot. Bisping is going to want a shot if he wins, but tbh can we give you a shot when you dropped your previous fight to either the guy that is the current champ or that the champ just beat? And if Munoz wins due to the fact that they were already considering giving him a shot I think he will be on deck before Belcher as well. So there is a chance that in the division in which there were "no contenders" that Belcher could be on the block behind 3 other guys. And the sick thing is, in that time Hendo could decide to drop back down to 185 and make things even worse.
It seems to me that the only we he really gets what he deserves is if he waits for this batch of significant MW fights and just calls out the winner of whoever comes out the freshest... which will likely be Belfort. And then if Belfort is able to beat Belcher it will give him a win over someone significant in the division and a reason to get a shot at the man that asked him how his foot taste.
