Ken Shamrock (An Editorial)

Postby heavyfl0w » Fri May 04, 2012 2:46 pm

Ken Shamrock is a guy I've thought about for a long time. Why wasn't he more successful? Why is he still fighting? Why did he always seem to find a way to blow it when it mattered most?

I had to put it all on paper, just to see what it would look like. It was pretty crazy. Below is a complete breakdown of Shamrock's career, foibles, and shenanigans. This is my new site, so any support and/or feedback is always appreciated. Thanks.

"For my first official “.com” feature, I’ve made the executive decision to go all ridiculous on you, my dear reader. Granted, this could mean a number of things. If I blogged about music, I could hit you over the head with a 1,000 word column on Jimmy Pop from the Bloodhound Gang being an underrated lyricist (“… when yer chokin’ yer chicken yer chick’ll be chokin’ on this chicken’s bone …”). This would be sad, but doable. If I liked to write about basketball, I’d try to explain why Andray Blatche of the Washington Wizards is a great leader who always takes good shots and would be a lock to pass any drug test at any time. This would be impossible, but don’t think I wouldn’t try.

I write about MMA, though. This being the case, the word “ridiculous” holds a special meaning to me. There are tons of ridiculous things that happen in MMA from week to week, but when we’re assigning the word to a specific person, one name stands above the rest. That name is Ken Shamrock.

Rest assured, this will not be a “he didn’t have anything to write about, so he just decided to shit on Ken Shamrock” column. This is a career that is so full of bizarre fights, shenanigans, ridiculous statements, pointless grudges, and other foolishness that I’d be cheating myself if I didn’t produce some sort of timeline. The combination of attitude, rampant steroid use, ego, and former “training methods” at the Lion’s Den (which he was in charge of) makes for a truly remarkable list of failures. I’m not doing this to bash Ken, and I’m not doing it to get attention (okay, maybe a little). I’m doing it because I honestly want to see what it looks like when you put it all in one place. Ken Shamrock is a sad person. Keep in mind, I’m leaving his coaching stint on TUF 3 off, because I promised I’d never write about the Ultimate Fighter again. Again: I will back all of this up."

I live in Roseville outside of Sacramento, CA. I was just driving down the street the other day and noticed that Ken Shamrock is supposed to be at a Church/Gym (Lord's Gym) as a speaker during their night service. Kind of weird.

Ken Shamrock is the fucking man..Todays fighters are reaping what Ken and the other old schoolers sowed big time....If you actually listen to Ken talk he is quite intelligent and knows his shit...he also helps disadvantaged youths and on top of all this he's a tough motherfucker...

I read about half of your blog before stopping because you glossed over too much and discredited too much and understated his accomplishments and achievements in the sport...
You actually think Ken Shamrock was afraid to figth Kimbo Slice? Are you for fucking real or what dude?

I urge everybody to read this, what I would call a write up deserving of the man named ken Shamrock and written by one of the old school linker guys too in Blacksheep...

Also when you have time watch this great interview too...It's pretty recent and pretty interesting..he also explains what happened surrounding the Kimbo fight too...

Also you claim Ken never achieved much in his career..how about this, taken from Blacksheeps write up,

Ken Shamrock, first of two men ever admitted to the UFC “Hall of Fame” (At the same time as Royce Gracie), four time UFC heavy weight champion, first UFC Superfight Heavyweight Champion, A founder of Pancrase, First Pancrase Heavyweight World Champion, Four Time Tough Man Champion, King of the Ring Champion, Pride Superfight Heavyweight Champion and founder of the “Lion’s Den” gym, was a juvenile delinquent. By the age of ten he had already ran away from home and been stabbed by another youth while living in a abandoned car. By the age of thirteen he had been bounced from one juvenile home to another and spent time in juvenile hall until he was sent to the “Shamrock Ranch”. A boy’s home for troubled youth ran by “Bob Shamrock”

Buddy although what you wrote is the truth, it is far from complete. That's one of the most biased pieces I have seen. Not a single mention of his victories and achievements.

I think we all know that Ken has fucked up shit in his life more than others have. That is no secret. But believe you me, if you watch some of his videos during the pancrase days, you will know that he was at one point one of the top ten fighters in the world. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. His submissions were fucking gold.

Wow guy, its easy to make somebody look bad when you just talk about all the negative parts of their career. What about his early days in pancrase or his wins over Bas, Severn, really Oleg and royce but no judging at the time. He always put on a show and I have a huge collection of old UFC and Pride DVDs and I can tell you he has owned up for his losses plenty, and using the example "im not used to this stuff" that was literally 15 seconds after he got chocked out i mean i don't know if you have ever been in a fight or even a wrestling match but, when your adrenaline is thru the roof your not quite urself. And he was also classy enough to admit he tapped since the ref didn't see that, but once again wouldn't wanna focus on anything but the negative.

Anyhow way to come in here and shit allover a legend, whos next talk about Wandis losses or only talk cro cop from 2007 on

Take your hate somewhere else, there are plenty of Jones and Gsp threads full of that shit

Bout time someone speaks sense. That was extremely biased. Ken shamrock is an absolute legend and former p4p king. He is one of the main reasons The UFC is where it is today thanks to his fight with tito at UFC 40.
