10 days out, 13 lbs over weight. How do they do it?

Postby theredbaron » Wed May 02, 2012 10:59 am

I know this belongs somewhere else, but I was hoping it could get some views before it gets moved.

I'm 6'4", 218, 16% body fat. I have a 205 fight on May 12, with same day weigh ins. I have strep throat today, so I probably wont be able to do anything until this weekend. I know cutting 10-15 lbs in a week is commonplace for pros, but I'm way behind schedule and kind of freaking out.

I was wondering if any of you guys had any detox/quick weight loss tips, diet/hydration-wise. I know I'm going to sweat off the last 5-6, but I was hoping to get down to 210-211 before I started to kill myself.

I already eat 5 servings of tomatoes & cucumbers, 1 lb of chicken, 2 whole green peppers, and 100oz water a day, so I might have some carbs & salt to expel from a weekend of partying, but not a whole lot.

Any help would be appreciated.

Good luck man, sounds like a tough cut.
Anger he smiles towering in shiny metallic purple armour
Queen jealousy, envy waits behind him
Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground
Blue are the life giving waters, taken for granted
They quietly understand

First thing dont panic.

Check out the DP Keto diet and immediately start on this, do am fasted cardio for at least 40 - 50 mins. As its same day weigh in using the sauna wont be ideal but that would be a last resort.

Theres a product called "sweet sweat" that i use and that will make the water pour out of you, especially if you have a sauna suit as well. I wouldnt use this until the morning of depending on how much you are over, then sauna is really the last last resort.

The diet will cause you to loose some water anyway, but also deplete glycogen (spelling) stores.

This can be done, make sure however you have a rehydration plan ready for straight after weigh in.

First I am not an expert. However if you are at 16% body fat and you weigh 218 right now then you could loose 17.4lb if you can get down to 8% body fat which is an alright amount. I have heard tomatoes can make your body retain fat so I'd try ditching the tomatoes. You'll have to go no carbs and lots of work at your fat burn heart rate. Monitor your bowl movements so that when you go for your weigh in your totally empty. But I agree with the other poster good luck this is going to be a tough cut.

Thanks for your help guys.

I'll be 219 by the end of the day after water and food.

I'm picking up the sweet sweat after work (seems alot better than the alboline), but I wont use it until next week, right? I'm gonna try some natural detox stuff and stick with spinache and other veggies with chicken and low sodium this weekend just to get the toxins out. I dont think I'll need the sauna to be honest.

I couldnt get a good idea of that keto diet, could you explain it to me? I'm gonna expel carbs and salt all week, I assume thats the goal?

first of all the weekend of partying will screw you, i dont know why you would do that before a weight cut or maybe im misunderstanding. other than that, for day of weigh in's to lose this much weight in your gonna be drained, be prepared to change your game plan. other than that perhaps others can help you.

I would start introducing the sweet sweat to your cardio from the 7th, and see what it does. As you will be drinking plenty then still (low sodium water) you wont loose huge amounts of weight but will stop you from hopefully retaining water as well.

As your weigh in is so close i would follow either the 195lbs or 185lbs male example.

If your budget allows i would get some taurine and potassium tablets, maybe some electrolyte stuff as well, dont want you cramping up.

I walk 220 at 6 weeks out and would change diet to get to 200-205 reaching the 2 week point before the fight. 2 days before fight time I would cut food intake altogether and drink water only. Day before weigh in NO WATER, wore the sweat suit and jogged until the weight came off. Used saunas as well.

One trick is to drink a lot of water the 2 weeks leading to the fight ( I carry a Milk jug around and make sure I go thru it at least 2 times a day ). This will make your body think that water is in plenty and you will urinate more as a result, ultimatly causing your body to want to store less water. This will help with cutting a couple pounds when you do your dehydration, if done right.

I typically cant sleep the night before weigh in because the dehydration is so bad. And hey I'm 6'4'' and fought 185.

The time between the weigh in and the fight I would rehydrate to 200'ish, you can do it!
Unless you actually fight, I don't care about your opinion. But for some reason I still read the posts..... Go figure.

No Fruits or veggies at all? That just seems like an awful lot of sodium this close out. How do you feel when you use this diet? Like what should I expect?

To PVD: Yea I walk around at 240, but with a clean diet and lots of water, the weight usually falls off. But with Final Exams and getting ill, I'm finding myself about 5 pounds behind schedule.

Thanks for the tips guys, its good to know im doing most of this right already

This doesnt sound like fun, but could be an easy way to cut weight with very little effort. Apparently with some people colonic irrigation can strip a fairly significant amount of weight. research this first though because ive never done it and not 100% on the details.

I know what a lot of guys in the UFC do to get rid of the last pound or two if nothing else is working is to sit in a hot salt water bath. Shit loads of salt in it though, until absolutely no more salt can dissolve in the water, then add a little more. The cells in your body maintain balance by moving water in and out of them because sodium atoms are too large to pass through them. They try to make the concentrations of sodium inside the cell equal the concentration outside the cell, and the only way they can do that is by removing water because it's the only thing small enough to pass out of their membrane.

So basically, the cells in your body force water to leave them so the ratio of sodium:water inside the cells can equal the much higher ratio of sodium:water in the bath water.

You should probably be able to drop the 13 doing all the other things on here, but this would be a last resort to cut some water weight, maybe a pound or two. Definitely wouldn't try this one first, even though it works, because it leaves your dehydrated as hell afterwards.

You could do sauna right before weighinns, just to it all the time during my judo period.

Just remember to dehydrate like crazy if you don't you are gonna feel like shit during warm-up.

Good luck with the fight.
