Let me see here, Jones isn't overall better than ANY of those guys, but he just had the qualities each/all lacked?
Doesn't that make him OVERALL better than each and every one of them?
He was able to outstrike Rua the MT guy who used sweeps to get off his back elsewhere but could do nothing when Jones had him down.
He was able to outland and outwrestle Rampage who is a wrestler that prefers to brawl.
Jones had some issues with the technical striking/D of Machida but was able to adjust after round 1, hurt Machida with a strike and got the better of him in the clinch (somewhere Machida was said to be superior), and choked Machida right to sleep.
Now Jones was able to easily outstrike and wrestle (what little there was) Rashad, and had Evans so beaten that the challenger spent the last 2 rounds looking like he was coasting to a UD win rather than needing the KO win. Evans had zero advantage in wresting, no real speed advantage I could see, no power advantage I could determine as his overhand right (like the one that KTFOed Liddell) had almost no effect on Jones except to put him off balance, not to hurt him.
What that means is Jon Jones is a better overall fighter than each opponent. He handled the MT guy with solid BJJ skills, he similarly handled the wrestler/brawler, adapted to overcome a shaky start against the most complete opponent (Machida) and used better striking to hurt and then superior clinchwork to submit Lyoto, and now has outgrappled and outhustled the 'better wrestler with faster hands/better footwork'.
Of course Bones has the qualities his opponents lack, but he is also better able to use the similar skills and overcome his opponents through being more complete (better) overall.
I agree with everything you said except Shad's speed advantage. That and power were his advantages but he fought a stupid fight and Jones just out EVERYTHING'd him (Yes, everything'd). Shad basically gave up after Jones hurt him with those elbows and that left hook that wobbled him. But, when Shad struck first, he was landing but wasn't confident enough to be the aggressor. Decent fight overall, nice win by Jones over another top opponent. Jones' resume is definitely becoming more and more impressive. And I would still like to see Shad drop to MW. And who in the hell does Joes have to fight now?
Hm. Interesting idea for Shad to drop to MW. Think he could make the cut? He's only 5'11, so it's possible.
By the way, looking at the Mayweather/Ortiz gif in your sig:
WTF was the ref looking at when all this went down? What a clueless idiot.
I think he can tho it'll probably be very tough. But I believe he wrestled at 187 in college so its possible.
Cortez was looking at the time keeper outside of the ring. He has idiot moments quite often. He called time in after Ortiz flying head butted Floyd and then took his eyes off of the action with that dumb ass look on his face.
Yeah, it looks like classic WWF / WWE tactics. Mayweather's manager outside the ring distracts the ref, while Mayweather hits Ortiz. The only thing better, would be if Mayweather had hit Ortiz with a metal chair that Jim "The Anvil" Neidhard threw into the ring while the ref's back was turned...
