Yea, got a couple where we disagree on fighters. A few of my friends are diehard Fedor fans (and I mean they praise him as the second coming of Christ) while I don't see how he is GOAT (YES, great fighter, I think he was the best guy in Pride, legend, goes down in history, but GOAT to me also means that he is the best that ever will be which I can't believe).

Another friend was pretty much nuthugging frank mir for awhile and we argued over mir vs lesnar 2 as well as mir vs Carwin

Same friend was also a serious BJ Penn fan and I got to watch him almost cry(his voice was cracking and his eyes looked watery) after BJ Penn vs Edgar 2, his rants were hysterical after that.

My friends are so damn casual the only fighter they really know is Brock Lesnar. Some know Ortiz and Liddell, and all of them also know of Frank Mir 'cause I used to feign being gay and say how hot he was.

dude's pretty hot, but he's getting old and wrinkly. If I were gay I'd be all about Anthony Pettis.

I have the same problem. None of my friends really follow it and the one person that i know who follows it is kind of a Douche so i dont usually talk to him. But i have been working on getting my girlfriend into it. We play UFC Undisputed 3 all the time together, ( i let her win).

I've had to single-handily educate multiple friends on MMA. :|

By educate, I mean basically everything they know about it I've told them.

This is an interesting thread, OP! I have buddies of two schools: they know a lot about MMA (the sport), or they know a lot about Martial Arts. It's great to have MMA discussions with the former; however, they don't appreciate as many aspects of the actual fighting compared to my martial arts friends. We all get together occasionally, which is fun.

Having a martial arts (Judo) background -- I go for my black belt later this month after years and years (and years) of stalling -- definitely influences how I watch differently than from my MMA buddies. They want to see a 1st round KO, I want to see a 3 or 5 round war on the ground and feet.

sure do, i have a buddy who showed me this sport around ufc 83 i think. and he's been teaching me about up and comers and who does what. i really got into it because of him and am now pretty hardcore into it. one of the few differences we had were on the heavyweight fighters cain(him) and jds(me). we both like eachothers fighters but had always said that when they fight for the title (this was after cain KO'd nog) he had cain and me jds. i think its been the only time ive been right when we differ on opinions. like fucking ever

Ahahaha some funny responses on here. Someone asking "What happened to Chuck Liddell?" recently  . "Dude got knocked the fuck out like 5 times... in a row."

I only have one buddy who keeps up with it and we are just like the OP. Sometimes I think he chooses another fighter just to argue. Some people are just (__)_)//////////////D's.

Why is it that in order to get girls into playing video games they let them win? Dirty hookers should know the disappointment from a loss from the get go if they want to experience reality. Compliment her and tell her how great she is and that she ought to make a run at the title online. Then watch as her spirit gets crushed playing some 5 year old in his underwear with cheerios on his hair.

I had only one friend who liked MMA, he had jumped on the Nick Diaz bandwagon hardcore after his win streak, before the fight between him and Condit was announced... He would regularly state "his opinion" about Diaz on his facebook but it was always basically a quote repeated from various mma analysts or mma news sites word for word...

He would also regularly yell at the T.V. screen during fights, especially during grappling and say "WHY DON'T YOU JUST GET OUT OF IT!! LIFT HIM UP!! THATS ALL YOU GOTTA DOO!!!" yack yack yack...

....anyways, we no longer speak.

I often wish I had a close buddy who knew as much as I knew about the sport.. Not that I am an expert or anything... But I generally know who has fought who and all the stories and what not... And anything I don't know I am interested enough to find out on the nets myself... Not to mention enough training to recognize what the actual fuck is going on.

Think I may take out a singles ad for an MMA bromance...

Me and my buddy watch all the fights together. While we generally agree on most things like who will win and who's good at what, we like all the opposite fighters.
War always: GSP, Shogun, Wand, Pettis, Rashad, Faber, Cain, AO, Condit, Mir.

we have poker night on fridays, but some of the guys are hardcore into mma and we'll get together on saturday as well.

i also have some other friends who never miss an event.
we go to the bars alot to watch together.

but there are many, many times i just want to watch with no bother and go to the bar alone.
i hate when someone is talking and shit during a fight.
i get intense and completely engrossed in the fights.

and whenever i go to visit my ma, she watches all the fights as well and will have them ordered if it's a fight-night.

i'm exactly like this also.
i can't stand any distractions when the fights are on.
nothing worse than someone at the table talking like it's a normal night out.
shut the fuck up, it's a fight-night.
that's the very reason i go out alone to watch the fights quite often.
a knock-out can happen in an instant.
i don't want to miss any of the action.
