Reem files for fight license in Nevada

Postby Loyalty13 » Mon Apr 09, 2012 3:43 am

UFC Heavyweight Alistair Overeem has officially filed for his license to fight in Nevada on May 26 at UFC 146 with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) according to Jeremy Botter. NSAC executive director Keith Kizer also expects that Overeem will be present at the April 24th hearing regarding his failure of a March drug test administered by surprise after a UFC press conference in Las Vegas.

Kizer also said that Overeem has not requested that the 'B' sample he provided after the press conference be tested. It is standard procedure for any samples to be separated into 'A' and 'B' lots so that the test may be challenged for accuracy by a different laboratory.

Overeem was set to fight heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos at UFC 146 but that has now been thrown into doubt. Overeem was given a provisional license to fight Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 but that license expired on January 31, 2011.

WAR Overeem! have never been worried about this fight not happening. He's going to be licenced, Dana has ruled out Cain or Mir. And Hunt wont be given it until 1 more win and there isnt anybody else worth giving it to. Worst thing i see happening is overeem doesnt get licenced but then Lorenzo puts it on for a couple events after it that isnt in Nevada.

I have to say I hope you are right and that Overeem is somehow cleared/licensed for this fight. Maybe the UFC can hold the fight out of the country to skirt the issue of licensing...not sure if that option has been discussed anywhere on the forum but it IS a viable alternative since many countries don't require drug testing or have their own commissions that require a license, yet still allow 'sanctioned' MMA events.

That will never happen. If NSAC doesnt license Reem, he wont fight in the UFC until the suspension is up, period. They will not attempt to usurp NSAC's decision by trying to licensing him in a different state or country. Thats just bad business.

Please explain to me how a contracted UFC fighter, who had to have a license to fight, cannot be suspended or fined. Sonnen got suspended and fined. Silva got suspended and fined. Sherk got suspended and fined. So why is Overeem immune? If he doesn't get fined and suspended then everyone who has been fined and suspended for failed tests have a right to file a complaint.

Personally if I were JDS I would decline the fight until Reem can pass multiple, random drug tests. Why should JDS have to fight a cheater?

I'm taking a guess

But I thought it was something how Overeem only got a temporary license for his fight with Brock and that it expired on january 31st. he doesn't have a license to fight at the moment, so it can't be suspended.

All the other fighters you listed i'm assuming had a license at the time they got caught

Overeems licence expired. And they tested him before giving him another licence, so they have no legal right to do anything. The most they can do is just not give him another licence, which they will just end up giving him one anyway, everyone knows this fight is still gonna happen.

Kizer has already said he cant do shit about it. All those fighters you named were given a licence and failed the test.

I say let him fight.. if his piss is still dirty come the night of the fight he should be booted out the UFC. I think there's nothing Ubereem can do to save himself from JDS. Without all that in his system come fight-o'clock he's gonna be on power drain.. Gypsy will make quicker work of him than even Cain.

But he is under contract with the UFC so Dana can suspend him for failing the drug test. If he doesn't get suspended then Dana is a huge hypocrite.

Move the event to Japan, they dont honor foreign commission suspensions. At least the UK or somewhere else in Europe.
