Learning Techniques from Video Games

Postby 8ken » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:06 pm

So most of you on here who actually train are probably thinking this is a stupid idea. But think about it, when you're fighting in a video game, you are able to take risks and do things you wouldn't do in a real fight and you might stumble upon some techniques that might actually work. Before responding, check out this video of the UFC game. Obviously some of the moves requires a great deal of flexibility, but I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing more of them in actual fights.

Now that we're gettin somewhere, you know we got to give back. For the youth is the future no doubt that's right and exact. Squeeze the juice out of all the suckers with power. And pour some back out, so as to water the flowers.

Seriously though, I've been thinking about it...
Wouldn't work at the moment as games aren't good enough yet.
However, in the future you could use virtual reality to do a lot of your sparring during rest periods, injury free

What I mean is- train normally, but use a virtual reality simulation (controlled via your mind/nerve impulses) during rest (could even train with other people with no risk of injury, concussion etc). Especially useful say if you had been injured and you're out of action for a while (in order to keep your mind sharp).
Favourie fighters:
Fedor Emelianenko, Genki Sudo, Mark Hunt, Don Frye, Josh Barnett, Minowaman, Mousasi, Chris Barnett, Maldonado, Del Rosario

thats not stupid at all, i learned catch wrestling from watching it on tv. If u want a diverse skill set u have to be a sponge and absorb what ever u can, after all Shoalin Kung Fu (the animal styles at least, ik it was first introduced as a way for monks to defend them selves from temple raiders)is derived from watching animals fight

i swear my deer hunting has gotten better since sniping in cod.
actually it hasn't.
i've still never taken more than one shot on an animal, moose included.
so, it hasn't gotten better or worse.

Unless one day video games become much like simulations and make you feel like your already there. There is no way a video game can make you better at these things. I do feel like I could rush someone's spawn in real life and call in my predator middle though.

i see where the TS is coming from.. but not in video games( aside from ufc kinect which i havnt played so i cant really say)... from watching fights and wrestling , if you analyze what they do instead of just watching, you should be able to learn and replicate by watching then trying and keep going back and forth till u perfect it. i have never took bjj or MT (considering joining serra bjj) but from watching and analyzing i devloped a mean clinch and guillotine....i would say learning grappling would be much easier to imitate after watching then striking tho.

I learned some awesome leg-locks from Tekken 2's King, but knowing them doesn't mean shit if you don't know how to set them up. Real Story.

Great techniques! Although I don't think even Penn or Aoki could pull those moves off :P

There is some added humor with the reply's to this thread. I mean come on people don't just read the headline watch the video first.
