Shogun's Cardio

Postby Slushy » Tue Mar 13, 2012 12:32 pm

Did anybody else notice Shogun's figure in his fight against Henderson? He looked out of shape for such a big fight in his career. Comments?

Shogun's cardio has been way down since he came back from his knee surgery. He has looked slow and fatigued early in his last three fights, starting with the Jones fight. Maybe he's not hungry anymore and hasnt been pushing himself in training,it tends to happen when a fighter makes a few million dollars. Look what happened to Liddell.

Shogun took some really heavy shots and still pressed on. His cardio was actually quite good in that fight considereing this. Yeah, he looked a bit chubby around the waist, but he has for some time now. Chubbiness is not a true indicator of cardio. I know chubby guys that can run all day.
Anger he smiles towering in shiny metallic purple armour
Queen jealousy, envy waits behind him
Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground
Blue are the life giving waters, taken for granted
They quietly understand

that was a high paced fight where he took a lot of damage and managed to keep fighting and even gain momentum toward the end. his cardio was fine.

Lol We're equating the conditions of running and fighting now? These are two totally different excerpts of energy.

Too lazy to look up a source, but yeah he had the flu, I believe that's why he was on an IV after the fight + the hospital visit.

Wandy said it best... When Shogun trains at the Universidad da Luta or something like that, which is the gym he owns in Brazil, he´s the boss, he says when to stop and when to start training, that hasn´t helped him at all...

He needs to train @ Kings MMa with Rafael Cordeiro where they´ll push him to the limits and break him, only that way he´ll become the old Shogun...

as someone else stated, someone doesnt have to be ripped to have good cardio. big country is known to have good cardio and look at him. shogun has NEVER been ripped. shoguns worst cardio was against jones which he admitted 3 things. shogun was 100percent injury free, he took the fight half ass and jones knee basically knocked all the wind out of him. the difference between the shogun we saw against machida and forrest2 to the one we saw against jones and hendo was he trained at home basically by himself. with machida he was training under dida(sp?) who had a fire under his ass. after the machida fight dida(sp?) left for kings mma for no one to really push shogun anymore, which lead to him going half ass in the jones fight. when the saw the true shogun against forrest due to the change in camp when he was at kings who he had people to again push him(he states this in the video). when hendo vs shogun was announced and shogun announced he wouldnt be going to kings i feared that the result would happen. coridero(sp?) basically said without saying when asked about shogun not returning "thats shogun". Shogun when pushed is indeed a monster but lately hes been up and down and thats due to his training. i would LOVE to see shogun vs jones when shogun spends a full camp at kings mma when he has people under his ass, i think itd be a diff fight. the coleman fight is complete null n void of any cardio arguements. shogun had 3 weeks of training with the fight, he literally just left rehab which was stated b4 the fight. that was more of shoguns fault of scheduling the fight so close, thats why shogun vs rashad was put off for 8 months
