I just recently read that Twisters and Crucifix submissions are illegal in the UFC, does anyone know why? They're not unlike any other submission where there is risk of injury or a broken bone involved so why are they set apart and not allowed? If you were to get caught in either one of these you would have a sufficient amount of time to tap just like anything else. Granted a Crucifix Hold ties up both arms but there is always verbal submission at that point.
I'm pretty good at catching someone with a twister and I know how painful they can be. During practices when I learn a new submission I'll often have someone execute it on me to understand better how it works, to find out how painful it really is, and to recognize possible escape routes (kind of like a cop who wants to carry a taser must first take a hit from one).
I know these submissions aren't that common to begin with but I don't, by any stretch of the imagination, believe they should be illegal.
Thoughts? Feedback?
